Deadpool Video Game Event and New Releases for 6-26-2013

We’ve got a big new comic week coming up Wednesday. The biggest yet this summer! (We know, we say that every week, but it’s also true) But first let’s hear about Ben’s first store event!

Our own Ben teamed up with the Gamestop in our plaza to get their pre-orders up on the new Deadpool video game. Turns out they got more pre-orders than any other shop in America and because of that they were able to have an early release event on Monday Night (6-24-2013) at Midnight! We’re here to give you a place to hang out and have fun before they open at midnight to sell you your game!Deadpool_Game

So this Monday (6-24-2013) from 10pm to midnight we’ll have a two hour Deadpool Video Games event at the shop! This includes:

  • 20% off all Deadpool merchandise in the shop! (grab a graphic novel to go with that game!)
  • Classic Video Game playing! We’ll have tv’s set up with
  • Captain America and the Avengers ON SEGA!
  • Justice League Task Force on SNES!
  • Spiderman on Atari 2600
  • And the coolest if you’ve never played it, SCOTT PILGRIM on X-Box!
This game was only available through a download and is an 8 Bit tribute game in Double Dragon Style! Fans of the comics have to check it out! (Don’t know the comics? Guess what? We’ll have them for sale! 😉 They’ve been coming back out in handsome full color editions)
We’ve put together a cool playlist of all 8-bit covers to set the mood!And…..word is that Deadpool himself will be there at 11pm for photo ops!

At Midnight the party will slide on down to Gamestop where they’ll sell you your game and they have a few cool things of their own going on.
Keep in mind when you buy the game there’s a coupon inside for $5 in comics money. You can go online and register your coupon with our shop and it turns into a gift certificate! Awesome!
So show up and support Ben’s efforts! I’ll be out of town but Jim will be lurking around in the background keeping an eye on things! Carol will be there too!

On to this week’s new comic releases for 6-26-2013!
The Big Book of the week is Batman/Superman #1 by Greg Pak and Jae Lee!

Unlike Superman Unchained, which had the creative team of DC’s two biggest guns, this book features Greg Pak (World War Hulk) and Jae Lee (Before Watchman Ozymandias) two cult favorites telling them story of Batman and Superman’s first meeting. We’ll have variants like:
Batman Superman Variant Cover A Batman
Batman Superman Variant Cover B Superman
Batman Superman We Can Be Heroes Blank Variant
Batman Superman Black and White Variant (1:100)

This week also starts the release of the Before Watchmen Collections with:
Before Watchman Ozymandias Crimson Corsair Deluxe Hardcover ($29.99)
Before Watchman MInutemen Silk Spectre Deluxe Hardcover ($29.99)

For those of you that were waiting for the graphic novels, it’s finally time to check these stories out! And amidst all the controversy, some really amazing stories were made here. So yes, it’s worth checking out. We’ll proud to have these books in stock.

Both Marvel and DC Comics have hit the Trifecta this week with their team books. DC’s giving us Justice League, Justice League of America and Justice League Dark all in the same week. (with a Aquaman kicker to boot) This issues are the one leading into Trinity next month, the big crossover in all four titles! So get a head start on what’s going on!

Marvel’s got all three core X-titles in one week, X-men, All New X-men and Uncanny X-men. These books are fun, and compliment each other well. I look forward to all three each month. Bendis is writing a new era of X-men that’s very accessible to new readers.

In the world of independents this week we’ve got two standout amongst many. I’m cutting and pasting the descriptions on these because when I try and rehash the plots of small press comics I start to sound insane. Best to leave that to the pro’s.
Image gives us Lazarus by Greg Ruck and Michael Lark: “FAMILY,” Part One

In a dystopian near-future government is a quaint concept, resources are coveted, and posession is 100% of the law. A handful of Families rule, jealously guarding what they have and exploiting the Waste who struggle to survive in their domains. Forever Carlyle defends her family’s holdings through deception and force as their protector, their Lazarus. Shot dead defending the family home, Forever’s day goes downhill from there….

Dynamite Entertainment gives us Uncanny by Andy Diggle and Aaron Campbell:
SIX BILLION SKILL SETS. ONE LAST CHANCE.
Weaver is unique, or so he thinks. Born with an uncanny ability, he can steal other people’s skills – their memories, abilities, and expertise – for a limited time. A man with a power like that could change the world; but as a professional gambler, con-man, and thief-for-hire, Weaver prefers to look out for number one. That is, until he finds himself drawn into a dangerous game of international intrigue where the rules keep changing, the players are hidden… and the first thing he stands to lose is his life. And maybe, just maybe, he isn’t so unique after all…
All four creators involved in these books are top notch. Hop on the indie craze! It’s built on quality work and storytelling.

What else have we got this week?
A new Hawkeye #11 (with a Pizza Dog solo story. No joke.), Adventure Time #17, Age of Ultron #10AI (by Mark Waid), Daredevil #27, Guardians of the Galaxy #4, Injustice Gods Amongst Us #6, Jupiter’s Legacy #2 (By Mark Millar!),  Lazfleeze #1 (The Orange Lantern!), Superman #21, The Wake #2 (By Scott Snyder!) and Deadpool #12 (Which brings us full circle!)

Whew! If you haven’t already been with us for years, welcome to the world of collecting comics in the summer! Never take anything we write at face value! Look stuff up! Do some research! Make the best choices for you! There’s lots to choose from and our job is to make sure it’s always there for you to look at!

See you on Wednesday!
