New Comic Releases for the week of 8-20-2014

Greetings from the road! Here’s some featured new releases coming out Wednesday, August 20th!

Grant Morrison’s epic swan song to DC, 5 years in the making, is finally here with Multiversity #1

Multiversity_#1I’ve got a love / hate relationship with Morrison’s work, which leaned more towards hate after Final Crisis. But his work on books like Justice League, Animal Man, Arkham Asylum and Zenith make me always give him a chance on his ambitious projects. I imagine this as a more crafted Seven Soldiers of Victory that will break the fourth wall by the end. Here’s an interview with Grant from Wired magazine to help you make your decision.

My opinion is, “I’m in till I’m out” and I’m actually a bit excited for it.

Robin Rises was a hit during Batman’s Anniversary in our shop, and it continues with Batman and Robin #34.

Batman_and_Robin_#34The book explores the lengths Batman will go to to bring Damian back, and will be chock full of guest stars along the way to test his moral compass. It’s only $2.99 too.

Also from DC is Sensation Comics Featuring Wonder Woman #1.

Sensation_Comics_Featuring_Wonder_Woman_#1Just like Adventures of Superman and Batman Legends of The Dark Knight, these will be none continuity stories by top creators. This one has Gail Simone writing Wonder Woman in Gotham cleaning up Batman’s Rouge’s Gallery.

Also this week, we finally got the DC Bombshell Pub Glasses!!!!!

bombshellsThey’re $11.99 each and made by the same company that makes our other pub glasses, So really high quality stuff. We’re actually going to expand the pub glass section of the shop because of these glasses.

Still haven’t tried Ms. Marvel? Issue #7 is this week and it’s time you did.

Ms._Marvel_#7To put the global appeal of this book into perspective, Marvel says that it’s their only title that sells more digitally than in print. The first time that has ever happened. (And we sell quite a bit in print) Reprints of #1, #4,and #5 will be in this week too, and #1 is on it’s 6th printing! (That’s only happened with Hawkeye!)

Also finally in are our Rocket Raccoon Pop Fun’s.

Pop_Rocket_RacconThey got delayed originally but we just got our full order. $10.99 each!

This week’s indie of the week is a lock with Fade Out #1 from Image Comics.

Fade_Out_#1Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips are the guys who have brought you some of the best crime noir stories in the shop, with Sleeper, Criminal, Incognito, and Fatale. This title is the START of their five years run at Image, and that’s a pretty big deal.

Hollywood – 1948. A noir film stuck in endless re-shoots. A writer plagued with nightmares from the war and a dangerous secret. An up-and-coming starlet’s suspicious death.  And a maniacal Studio Mogul and his Security Chief who will do anything to keep the cameras rolling before the Post-War boom days come crashing down. THE FADE OUT is the most ambitious series yet from the award-winning Noir Masters.

And for a little eye candy, here’s the new Batman Black and White Statue by Jae Lee.

Batman_Black_and_White_By_Jae_LeeThese statue’s are the shop’s best selling line and are comic shop only. $79.95.

Thanks for being awesome customers everyone! Again you will be left in the capable hands of the staff. Make them look good while I’m on vacation!

Peace!
