New Comic Releases for 1-20-2016

Welcome to the recommended new releases for the week of January 20th, 2016!

INDY BOOKS

We’ll start off with a couple indie releases, just to mix things up.

We’ve decided to carry all titles from the new publisher Aftershock, mostly due to their intense creator list as well as some impressive first issues.

This week is the release of Brian Azzarello’s American Monster #1.

American Monster #1“In a small Midwestern town, a large man with a horribly scarred face gets off a bus, and takes a room. He spooks the locals–nobody knows him–or do they? It’s impossible to say be-cause he seemingly has no face. The man’s intentions remain unknown, until he takes on a corrupt sheriff and the rural crew of racist arms dealers. The town’s impression of the man changes, and he’s seen as a hero…until his real intentions bubble to the surface. The man isn’t there to end the gang, but to take it over. And he’s just getting started.”

Just like Black Mask, we feel this company is worth taking a look into.

Dynamite Entertainment has started to stray from it’s licensed creations to recruits some decent writers for indie projects as well. Rick Remender is at the front of this initiative with Devolution #1.

Devolution #1“Every living creature on Earth has been devolved – the evolutionary clock turned back, reverting all life to odd mutations and prehistoric incarnations. The cities of man are little more than bloody territories ruthlessly dominated by tribal Neanderthals ruling from the backs of mammoths, packs of saber-toothed tigers, and giant man-eating insects. Writer Rick Remender (Black Science, Fear Agent), artist Jon Wayshak (The Authority), and colorist Jordan Boyd (Ant-Man, Planet Hulk) take you on a journey with the last band of “Still Sapien” humans in the hope of locating an antidote and re-evolving the human race.”

MARVEL COMICS

Deadpool’s still on our minds, and we’ve got a new issue this week as well as some more dollar preview books.

Deadpool #6Deadpool get the 2099 treatment.

True Believers Weding of DeadpoolFull one dollar issue this week include:

  • Meaty Deadpool #1 (reprinting Deadpool #11 (2008))
  • Groovy Deadpool #1 (reprinting Deadpool #12 (2012)
  • Wedding of Deadpool #1 (reprinting Deadpool #27 (2012)

The movie is being released on February 12th, and there will be some special stuff coming in that week to coincide with it. Stay tuned.

Marvel’s still pumping out All New All Different #1’s, with two stand out’s this week.

Silver Surfer #1Dan Slott will bring the Surfer back down to Earth as we see him interact with more Marvel characters as he shows Dawn what’s what in the MU.

Captain Marvel #1The team behind TV’s Agent Carter, Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, take over Captain Marvel and put Carol in charge of Alpha Flight.

GREAT SHOP GIFTS

We also got a huge order of Marvel and DC playing cards this week.

CardsMore than just playing cards, they’re really a great deck of classic artwork featuring different characters and themes. They’ll be a mainstay at the shop now. (We figure between pub and shot glasses, bottle openers, and magnets, you should be able to craft a pretty good gift for someone whenever you need too.) Speaking of which, we did restock on magnets this week as well.

DC COMICS

Also, get ready for the debut of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow this Thursday on the CW. (They’ve even just cast Jonah Hex for a future episode.) Here’s two trailers for DC’s new time traveling team of B list heroes and villains:

BRRRRRR

When the weather gets this cold, we feel we have to give you more reasons to come out and see us, so:
From now until the end of January, buy any two half off books from the discount graphic novel bins and get another book of equal or lesser value out of the bins for FREE!

This is also keeping in mind that we just got in hundred’s of new books to fill the discount stock!
It’s like buying one book at regular price and getting two for free.

We know you need material to read while you’re hiding out at home, and there’s plenty of stuff in there to keep you occupied.

That’s it for this week!
