New Comic Releases for 6-29-2016

Lots of fun stuff for this fifth Wednesday in June!

DC Superhero Girls make their original graphic novel debut in a $9.99 softcover!

DC Super Hero Girls GNDC started this launch with a Free Comic Book Day comic and the story continues here in this new story. This is a great way to introduce your kids to the world of DC Comics, and the series itself reminds me of the old Superfriends Challenge of the Superheroes cartoons, with characters from literally all over the DC Universe. DC Entertainment has done a great job of providing addition media to support the line, and you can find a lot of interactive stuff here to make it a modern experience for you and your kiddo.

Also, this book is available in comic shops this week first, before all mass media outlets!

Sure Captain America Steve Rogers #1 caused a creepy ruckus last month. Well the controversy continues this week with issue #2.

Captain Americ Steve #2Did Marvel decide to change the story line at the last minute? Is the big mouse who controls all the real HYDRA? Does any of this really matter? Ultimately, we have to remember that while certain properties are dear to us, the only part of them that defines us are the parts we care about and put into our personal version of the character. One thing’s for sure, it’s still fun to say “Hail HYDRA’ years after Winter Soldier came out.

It’s time to stop waiting and finally read the acclaimed Vision by Tom King.

Vision GNThe first six issues are collected in a graphic novel this week. This story is a great sidebar to everything that’s going on in the Marvel Universe, which actions inside that will eventually have to be dealt with on a larger scale. Very spooky and filled with Marvel mythology. Tom King was chosen by DC Comics to take over Batman after Scott Snyder due in great part to his work on this title. Just hold up the book and ask Ben “Should I be reading this?” to get an earful.

Another book introduced on Free Comic Book Day that will continue this week is Con Man: Spectrum #1.

Spectrum #1Spectrum is the “Serenity” in the world of Alan Tyduk and Nathan Fillion’s dissection of fandom and con culture, Con Man. Check out the web series here on Vimeo! https://vimeo.com/conmanwebseries

We’re also getting a pretty great resupply of action figures this week, as well as some new additions, such as the week’s Joker and Harley Mad Love Box Set.

Mad Love$45 and you get the comic book too!

Finally, please save the date next week for Carol’s final day at the shop! We’ll be having a small in shop party from 7pm to 9pm on Wednesday July 6th. While we did host Carol’s retirement party five years ago, this is her final day on the books at the shop, entering full retirement and the world of professional grand-mothering. Other than an opportunity to say farewell we’ll have some snacks, refreshments(including our Ma Hunkel Retirement Ale, created in part by Carol herself) and other surprise giveaways to commemorate this moment. Come have a drink with the staff of CNJComics!
