Featured New Releases for 1-23-2019

It’s been a while since we’ve had a full on new release email, what with events during the holidays and wrapping up year-end stuff.

So hey! Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019.

The big book of the week is Donny Cates’ new Guardians of the Galaxy #1!

With a huge cast of Marvel Cosmic Characters to help fill the lineup! If you can’t get enough of Cates, we’ve got a graphic novel of Cosmic Ghost Rider this week.

If you’ve never read it, Cosmic Ghost Rider is Frank Castle (The Punisher) who became Ghost Rider who became a herald of Galactus who became Thanos’ lackey. It’s great stuff.

BOOM Studios has taken over the beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer license, and under the guidance of Joss Whedon, will be reimagined in the modern day and back in High School.

The core motifs of Buffy are both timeless and very 90’s at the same time, so it’ll be interesting to see this play out.

Bendis’ new ‘WONDER’ imprint from DC had a really great start a few weeks ago with Young Justice and will continue this week with Naomi #1.

Bendis is crafting an entire teen line for DC, that will also include the Wonder Twins next month!

Naomi looks to reveal some secrets about the DC Universe and will be an important read down the line.

Other books we’re looking forward to including Batman #63, just to see Tom King write John Constantine. Batman’s been good but experiencing a bit of a downhill roll since “The Wedding” issue. Selina is supposed to return soon so let hope the slump is over.

Avengers by Jason Aaron has been the best Avengers material in years, and they occasionally do one-shot issues featuring the Avengers of 1,000,000 BC. This week Aaron is joined by Andrea Sorrentino to give of the background on the Iron Fist!

Awful Netflix show aside, I love Iron Fist, and his first appearance is one of my give away picks for Fridays Guest Bartending at Working Class Brewery. (see below)

Another bit of fun that might be overlooked is Geoff Johns writing Shazam #2 this week. Johns is DC’s top creative talent and he only writes stuff he loves.

Plus, you know, there’s a movie is coming…

As mentioned above, the entire CNJ Crew (Jim, Jason, Ben, Kevin, Josh and both John’s) will be guest bartending at Working Class Brewery next to the shop this Friday, January 25th from 5 pm to 9 pm.

We’ll be giving recommendations on Marvel Comics and handing out FREE comics every half hour. Stop by for a beer or two and read some comics! We love to support businesses in our plaza!  All the info is here!

Another cool announcement for us, I was notified that we were chosen to be part of Facebook’s Communities Summit in February!

“There are millions of communities on Facebook representing thousands of interests. They all have one thing in common: a leader who brings people together. To support these leaders and the communities they’ve built, we’re opening applications for the Facebook Communities Summit, which is happening February 7 – 8 at our headquarters in Menlo Park, California. For the first time, we’re inviting leaders of local business and nonprofit communities to the event, in addition to people leading communities on Facebook Groups, Pages and Fundraisers.”

What’s extra cool is that I was also notified that I’ll be speaking at the event as well. Less than a dozen people out of hundreds of submissions were chosen to speak. We get to do this because you are the awesome community that we represent! Collectors, cosplayers, local artists,  people who care about their community and want to make it better.

Thanks for everything you do to make us what we are!
