waiting, the House and Powers of X Deluxe Hardcover is finally here, and we
can’t recommend it enough.
$60 gets you
everything. You can even dig through our Facebook page to find the video from
the book club we hosted on the matter.
This week is also a
new volume of Dog Man!
Laugh all you want,
Dog Man is the best selling graphic novel on the market, by far. Dav Pilkey,
the creator of Captain Underpants, is a genius with an incredible backstory.
You may have heard
that we got a great new collection in, Marvel Comics from the 60’s and 70’s.
We’re working our way
through the books but the stuff we have out is now is 25% off as always.
There’s about nine
long boxes out right now with more to come. For the Christmas Sale on December 21st (the day of the Art Show
and Holiday Party) to the 24th, these books WILL be 50% off. This is our thank
you to you for a great year.
Oh yeah, you also get to use this coupon at the PARTY ONLY from 8 pm to 11 pm on December 21st. (No joke, we love you but there’s no sustainable model for us where we allow 50% off one item whenever.)
Here’s all the info on this years’ annual Holiday Party / Art Show / Sale / Fundraiser to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank!
Art and Fundraiser
December 21st from 10 am to 7 pm we’ll be hosting an art show featuring local
artists who created custom covers to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank. These covers can be won in
a basket raffle system where one food item or one dollar gets you a ticket. You
pick which cover your ticket goes to so you can win a one you really like. This
year’s art show theme is a comic book character / Christmas movie mashup, which
we’ve been having a lot of fun with.
Here are some of the covers from previous years, all based on Uncle Eddie from Christmas Vacation:
We will shut down the store at 7 PM only to reopen at 8 PM for our annual Holiday Customer Appreciation Party! The party lasts till around 11 PM and features snacks, beverages, and the required holiday cheer. Winners of the basket raffle are drawn promptly at 10:30 PM. Winners need not be present but if you’re there you can take your artwork home with you.
All the money
collected during the art show will go to the Cleveland Food Bank, who have the
amazing ability to turn one dollar into four full meals for those in need
during the holidays.
We will also be having a holiday sale from Saturday, December 21st to Tuesday, December 24th. (We thrive during this time period when it’s too late to successfully order stuff through online. We always have gift certificates!) This sale will absolutely be in effect during the art show.
This sale includes:
50% off all back issues (yes all, even the new collection we just bought. Hey, it’s Christmas right?)
20% off all graphic novels
20% off all action figures, statues and pop funs.
10% off everything else in the shop
All are welcome to our holiday party which, as previously stated, runs from 8 PM to 11 PM on Saturday, December 21st. Our first party gift to you is this coupon good for 50% off any one item in the shop! Please print this image out or show it to us on your smartphone when you check out.
Coupons MUST be used at the party between 8 PM to 11 PM period. (sorry, no exceptions.) Limit one coupon per person.
We have also brewed
two beers just for the party, Thanos’s Ginger “Snap” Ale and Spidey’s
Shitter’s Full Christmas Ale.
Labels are being designed by Craig Worrell and will be revealed soon!
These beers are free and go pretty quickly starting right at 8 PM. We’ll also have other beers as well as non-alcoholic refreshments. (For the record, our holiday party is and will always be an all-ages affair.) While refreshments are free, our bartender Macklin works solely on tips, so please do the right thing.
Chocolates will also be provided by Fear’s Confections in Lakewood, one of our favorite small businesses in the area. Thanks Cassandra!
Carol will be there, and hopefully Santa Claus will stop by too! Honestly after a few drinks, anything is possible. We always have photo op areas set up around the shop so be sure to wear your Christmas finest. Wearing stupid holiday clothes makes everything more fun. I know I’ve got my outfit ready. (From Lansky Brothers!)
This is our way of bringing all of our favorite people together to give something back to the community. Over the last six year’s we’ve been able to assist the Cleveland Food Bank in creating over 60,000 meals. All this is only possible with your help, which we are always grateful for. This party is our way of saying thank you for your support year-round! (and it’s a lot of fun to put together too!)
So spread the word
Cleveland, and we’ll see you on December 21st!
Alright, we’re all getting ready for Free Comic book Day 2019, but here’s a quick email with some updates, new releases and info. Expect the final FCBD email next week. For now you can check all the information we have right Here!
WE’VE NEW COLLECTIONS!
The big news is that we bought a pretty major collection, mostly 50’s and 60’s Batman and Superman DC’s. This includes associated titles like Detective, Action, Adventure, Superboy, World’s Finest, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olson. There’s also lots of other fun stuff like Showcases, Justice Leagues, and lots more.
There were also a
handful of Marvel’s like the Fantastic Four, Strange Tales, Tales of Suspense
Sorry for the shiney
pictures, again, we have lots to do here.
We have processed most
of the keys and these books are ready to be looked at. About two long boxes are
out, and we hope to have three more ready by Free Comic Book Day. These books
will not be 50% that weekend, but they will be the standard 25% off, and
they’re actually 25% off right now. I’ve had a lot of fun processing them and
fine tuning my grading. For the first time ever I brought someone in for a
second opinion and I was with .5 of all their grading, so we’re right on
This is really exciting
stuff for us to have, so if you’re a collector and were thinking about
traveling to Cleveland from a distance it’ll be worth it.
SOME FCBD BASICS
Second, we will have the FCBD John Constantine Pop Funs for sale right at 10 pm when the event starts on May the 3rd. We’ve got 35 so they are limited. Getting them has been tough in the past, so just be ready by the glass cases if you want to buy one.
Canadian Ale is made with Cascade, Willamette and Centennial hops and is
inspired by the classic Canadian Ale.
Cyclop’s Weak Summer
Pilsner is feeble and inept just like it’s namesake, but hey, some people like
him. Hallertau and Tettnang hops in that one.
In all seriousness,
there’s a lot of Wolverine/Cyclops humor going in this year’s theme, and it’s
just that, comedy. A lot of people get caught up in characters they like and
start to attribute attacks to the character as attacks on them. This is not so.
We are a classic comic book shop at heart and we are allowed to have opinions
on what we like and do not like. I like Wolverine over Cyclops, and I can
skillfully defend my point against debaters using comic book history. I’m also
happy to have that debate. That does not mean I get to personally attack people
who do like Cyclops, but it’s fun ct to talk about heatedly. Remember, an attack
on a character is not an attack on you. Treat real people with respect.
On that note, to show
respect for fans of the terrorist, Cyclops, if you tip at the bar you’ll get to
pick out a free Cyclops/Jean Grey centered comic book.
If you don’t tip
at the bar, you’ve kind of muted the value of your opinion anyway. At least in
this town. Always tip on a free drink. Bartenders live of tips, and Macklin is
