MARVEL COMICS

Hearing Reed Richards share his plan for “humanity’s retirement project”, the total optimization of history, Doom is outraged. How dare history be rewritten by Richards? How dare he fix the war and conflict, and remake the world as he sees fit? To make Latveria into the country Doom believes it should be; to earn its rightful standing in the world, he takes Reed’s idea. Pushing Latveria’s resources to the limit, and pushing scientific advancements that would have taken millennia to discover, the Doom Engine is created. But the Fantastic Four isn’t going to let Doctor Doom succeed. Now Doom is locked in a battle across all of time and space! Where will he find himself, and how will history be changed? Find out in this five-issue mini-series from writer Ryan North and artist Francesco Mobili. I can’t wait!

Wiccan and Hulkling’s housewarming turns into a family reunion when Grandpa Ultron crashes the party! Ultron wants to reclaim Vision and Viv, but he’ll have to get through all the branches of the family tree first! The four-part story in this one-shot features four different creative teams. First, “Family Matters” is the framing story by Wyatt Kennedy and Stephen Byrne where everyone gathers at Billy and Teddy’s new Baba Yaga chicken house, and the family is separated when Ultron and his iterations attack. “Mixed Signals” sends Wiccan and Speed to the set of one of Teddy and Billy’s favorite shows, leading to a twin team up as an Ultron hacks into Billy’s biometric watch. Written by Tegan Quin with art by Luciano Vecchio. Then, Teddy and his sister Phyla are forced into a swordfight by another Ultron in Zoe Tunnell and Rachael Stott’s “En Garde.” And Hulkling gets some older sister advice about his relationship. Josh Trujillo and Bradley Clayton’s “Machine Learnings” sends Vision and Viv into the Sanctum Sanctorum and puts them up against Dad Ultron and his daughter Ultronica! But they’ll have to watch out for all the magical artifacts and relics as they fight, because who knows what damage they’ll do! Can the extended family stop the Ultrons? Can Billy and Teddy work out their worries about their marriage? Sure! Because they’re not ending this one on a downer! Plus, an interview with Tegan and Sara!

DC COMICS

The finale of the Season of the Witch storyline! Diana faces the Iron Maiden to give Zatanna a chance to escape. But when the Iron Maiden directive is changed to “capture Wonder Woman”, there may be no escape for Diana. With other forces having vested interests in her mission, she may not be able to rescue her friends and allies. Things are becoming more complicated, as Absolute Wonder Woman moves into a new chapter in Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman’s continuously excellent series.

A new Elseworlds series starts here, with a new and different origin of Superman! A spacecraft crashes on a farm in Kansas. But as it opens, Martha and Jon Kent don’t find a baby, they find the last remaining man of Krypton, Jor-El! Jor-El finds a new family with the Kents, becoming Jon’s adopted brother, but he still honors Krypton’s rules of not interfering with a planet’s progress. Until a tragedy makes him realize he must use his new powers and his intellect to help the world. Witness how the Man of Steel and Science came to be in writer Kenny Porter and artist Danny Earls’ Superman: Father of Tomorrow!

And Batman Hush 2 finally wraps up with issue #163. Hush 3 has been announced, but don’t hold your breath, because DC has said it won’t be solicited until it is completely finished. So we’ll see?

SMALL PRESS COMICS

If I don’t get a sequel to this ridiculous book, I will throw a hippopotamus sized fit. It’s the final issue of Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre, and it’s just as over the top as the first three! More coked out hippos! Bikini boat fights! Twists! Turns! Shooting, shooting, and more shooting! “My doctor told me to avoid bullets!” My doctor told me to read more Florida Hippopotamus Cocaine Massacre! Thanks Fred Kennedy and James Edward Clark for making such a weird and super enjoyable read!

Now this one we know we’re getting more of! Exquisite Corpses wraps up with issue #13 this week, and I don’t think any of us would have thought at the beginning that it would end this way. Grab the collections and read a great slasher story, and get yourselves ready for Exquisite Corpses season two and the character focused stories, starting with Rascal Randy! Thank you Tynion, Walsh, and all the creators involved in this series for killing it. Literally! And as Tiny Onion likes to say, “Thank you for reading comics!”
