Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, August 17th.

SUICIDE SQUAD

This week’s lead title is the new Suicide Squad #1, featuring artwork by Jim Lee!

"SuicidePart of DC’s commitment to Rebirth was getting Lee on a regular title. Since the Squad was in the spotlight he hopped on board this title. He’s doing half the book with a Deadshot backup. Jim Lee Harley Quinn, right!!?

Love it or hate it, the Squad’s new look is a big thing for DC.

Supergirl gets her Rebirth #1 special this week, with renewed interest in the character after the success of the television show.

"Supergirl"In case you waited, the full Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hardcover is out.

"BatmanCIVIL WAR & BRIGGS LAND

Civil War is trudging along, and even though I’m enjoying it, it’s hard for me to get around some of the choices being made and the characterizations of certain characters. Too many people hung Hawkeye out to dry in my book. Read about some of these resentful (and angry) people in Civil War II The Fallen.

"CivilI’m a big fan of Brian Wood’s work, from Massive to Rebels to DMZ, I always feel like I walk away a little bit smarter. I’m excited for his new title form Dark Horse, Briggs Land, examining the culture of secessionists.

"Briggs“Briggs Land, nearly a hundred square miles of rural wilderness, contains the largest antigovernment secessionist movement in the United States. When matriarch Grace Briggs wrests control of the operation from her incarcerated husband, she sparks a war within the community-and her immediate family-that threatens to bring the full power of the federal government down on their heads.”

JACK KIRBY’S BIRTHDAY

Save the date for Sunday August 28th to celebrate Jack Kirby’s 99th Birthday at the shop.

Working with Jack’s granddaughter, we’ll be joining an ever growing group of shops across the country supporting her endeavors through Kirby4Heroes.

http://www.kirby4heroes.com/

"Kirby4heroes"We’ll have some liquidated Kirby material at a stellar price so that everyone can have access to some material. We’ll also be raffling off a Kirby New Gods Artist Edition ($150 value) as well as donating 20% of all sales to the Initiative. We all owe Jack a never ending debt that we can only try and settle by supporting his family’s efforts. (YOU! New gen kid! Get in here and get some KIRBY!)

More on this next week.

Lastly, thanks for all the support while I was gone on vacation. Whether you came in to pick up your file, or stopped in to buy something extra. It’s comforting to know I can step away from the business to be with my family for a few weeks and everything is still in good hands. The staff, myself and my family thank you.

Oh yeah, if you haven’t seen Stranger Things on Netflix get on it. You’re missing out on one of my favorite pop culture picks of the year. Phenomenal.
