New Comic Releases

We’ve got some good new releases this week, starting with
Flash #750!

""

This is another oversized anniversary issue with lots of
decades covers at $7.99. Lots of stories by writers like Francis Manapul, Geoff
Johns, Michael Moreci, Mary Wolfman and Joshua Williamson.

Here’s a sweet 60’s variant by Nick Derington. (the above is
the 2000’s variant by Jim Lee!)

""

We’re incredibly stoked for Strange Adventures #1 this week,
featuring Adam Strange (who’s a top ten character for me) by the same creative
team as Mister Miracle, writer Tom King and artist Mitch Gerads.

""

In the way that Mister MIracle disected PTSD, this book will
take a look at the problems with celebrity. I’ve read a preview of number one and it’s a
big thumbs up. Twelve issue mini series, just like Mister MIracle.

The “Marvel” six issue mini series will expand on
Alex Ross’ Marvels, with new creative teams showcasing big events from the
Marvel Universe from a bystander point of view, quite in the spirit of the
original book.

""

(There’s an Avengers story with art by Steve Rude in there!)

Another book Marvel is putting a big focus on is Strange
Academy, to the point where it looks like they have plans for it beyond the
comic. (Marvel could use a good “Harry Potter” type book.)

""

Imagine the Xavier Institute if it taught magic and was run
by Doctor Strange. Expect lots of magical guest instructors, and a whole new
cast of characters as students. Oh yeah, written by Skottie Young with art by
Humberto Ramos!

Lastly, might we recommend the Something is Killing the
Children Graphic Novel?

""

If you’re looking for an engaging horror story with some action
in it too, this is the book. A sleeper hit that came out of nowhere and lives
up to it’s reputation.

“When the children of Archer’s Peak begin to go missing,
everything seems hopeless. The few children that return alive have terrible
stories – impossible details of terrifying creatures that live in the shadows.
Their only hope of finding and eliminating the threat is the arrival of a
mysterious stranger, one who believes the children and claims to be the only
one who sees what they can see. Her name is Erica Slaughter. She kills
monsters. That is all she does, and she bears the cost because it must be
done.”

Thank you for all the support (and sales) during
“Winston World”. Money collected during this time period directly
affects how awesome we can make Free Comic Book Day, and with Chris Claremont
coming in this year, we hope to pull out all the stops. (That means move fast
with no thoughts of slowing down!)
