New Comic Releases for the Week of Wednesday, June 17th
More Secret Wars, DC Divergence, and some give a-ways too, all this week at the comic book shop.
Here’s the featured new releases coming out Wednesday June 17th, 2015
Secret Wars
We’ll lead with Secret Wars titles this week, since one of the books that’s closest to the regular series is coming out, Thors #1.
After the big reveal of the female Thor’s identity, Jason Aaron has shifted gears to delivered the adventures of Battleworld’s police force, the Thors. Enforcing Doom’s laws of containment across the domains is sure to drag out a few good tales. (and let’s face it, Aaron’s run on Thor has been nothing short of legendary.)
Next up, the villains get their own book with Squadron Sinister #1.
Marvel’s villain team of Justice League rip off’s controls their corner of Battleworld, but will that be enough for them. Art by Carlos Pacheco.
The best and brightest teens in Battleworld all attend the same school in Runaways #1.
Based on the book made famous by writers like Brian K Vaughn (Saga, Y the Last Man) and Joss Whedon (uh, Buffy and Avengers)!
Old Man Logan #2 comes out this week, and we just wanted to remind you how great the fist issue was.
Brian Bendis has done a great job taking over the reins from Mark Millar’s classic storyline, and Andrea Sorrentino is delivering his best work ever with a tone and panel layout that fits the writing and feel of the book. In one issue it’s become one of my top three favorite new titles.
Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #2 is out this week too!
Divergence
DC Divergence’s biggest new release this week is Justice League of America #1 written and drawn by Bryan Hitch.
Hitch’s style can only be called cinematic, and he’s got the big seven to play with. Huge issue at $5.99, with variant covers as well, one for each member of the team (and the Joker!).
One Harley title wasn’t enough, so now you’re getting a new series co-staring Power Girl.
This six issue mini-series is written by Amanda Conner with art by Stephane Roux.
Spinning out of Batman and Robin is Robin Son Of Batman #1.
Damien goes off on his own to prove himself with his pet demon.
Other new Divergence #1 titles this week are Dr. Fate #1, Black Canary #1, Doomed #1 and Prez #1.
We also have some cool promo items to tie into the Divergence titles this week including Bizarro Temporary Tattoo’s, Gotham Academy Stickers, Justice League Mini Posters, and Robin Son of Batman paper masks. (We’ll also be getting in more Harley Quinn paper masks as well). Just by any DC item of the new comic table and you can grab one of each while supplies last.
Ben and Arkham Knight
Just a heads up to save the date, Ben will be hosting a pre-release event for the Batman Arkham Knight video game in conjunction with the Gamestop in the plaza. This will be Monday June 22nd from 10pm to Midnight, to give you a cool place to hang while waiting for midnight. We’ll have classic video games, raffles for cool prizes like a copy of the game, original Batman Artwork by Ryan Finley, and a Batman Black and White Statue; as well as discounts on all Batman merchandise in the store. (the sale on merchandise will extend to all day Monday and Tuesday, in case you get some Batman cravings after playing the game.) Stop by and hang out at the shop on a Monday night!
