New Comic Release for 3-26 at CNJ Comics
We’ve got some stand out new releases that were very easy for us to pick this week, along with information about our Daredevil Appreciation Graphic Novel Sale!
First up is the long awaited Sandman Overture #2!
The Sandman’s epic origin story continues in the second issue of the new miniseries by the superstar team of writer Neil Gaiman and artist J.H. Williams III!
In which Daniel enters Mad Hettie’s dream and Morpheus discovers why he has been summoned and what he has been summoned to do.
After some delay we’re happy to say that issue number two is finally here! Sales on the first issue far exceeded our expectations and we honestly expected to sell quite a lot.
This issue ships with two covers in an equal ratio, one by series regular J.H. Williams III and one by classic Sandman cover artist Dave McKean both at only $3.99! We’ll be sure to stock up on issue number one and all ten volumes of the graphic novel series along with the absolute editions. We’ve even got a $1.00 first issue reprint of the classic series to get you started!
Also be one the look out for issue number 7 of The Wake by Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy! this week!
Over at Marvel we have what has to have been on of the largest preorders for an All New Marvel NOW Title! The Silver Surfer #1!
The universe is big. Bigger than you could ever imagine. And the SILVER SURFER, the lone sentinel of the skyways, is about to discover that the best way to see it… is with someone else.
Meet the Earth Girl who’s challenged the Surfer to go beyond the boundaries of the known Marvel U– into the strange, the new, and the utterly fantastic!
Anywhere and Everywhere… Hang On!
Written by Dan Slott and drawn by indie fan favorite Michael Allred. (let’s face it, it’s his art that’s got everyone’s attention) It’s also hard not to notice that maybe the Silver Surfer is taking a few concepts from Doctor Who about dragging a ‘companion’ along on his adventures?
It’s hard not to think of this book as already being a winner.
Also in the realm of fun this week from Marvel is Survive #1 from Brian Bendis!
Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds descended upon the Ultimate Universe with an insatiable hunger. Though he was defeated by the bravery of a small band of heroes – the cost was devastatingly high. New York City lays a smoldering ruin, and not everyone made it back alive. Many of the Ultimates are dead – and the remaining heroes are all beaten, broken, and emotionally drained.
Witness the birth of a new team of Ultimates! Who survived the fury of Galactus? Who didn’t make it out alive? What will become of S.H.I.E.L.D? The future of the Ultimate Universe is happening now!
The content from this one shot was originally kept a secret until the ending a Cataclysm! This is the book that will help you decide if your going to continue reading the new Ultimate line from Marvel. We think it was worth mentioning because we can’t help but notice that Sam Wilson, the Falcon from the upcoming Captain America Winter Soldier movie, is on the cover!
It’s also a really huge week from Marvel, with other hot new releases including:
- Captain America Homecoming #1
- Deadpool #26
- Guardians Of The Galaxy #13
- Hawkeye #18
- Iron Patriot #1
- New Avengers #16
- Origin II #4
- Superior Spider-Man #30 (get ready! Peter Parker is coming back!)
- Superior Spider-Man Team Up #11
- and Uncanny Avengers #18! Whew!
We’re stuck in super hero mode this week, so even our indie book will have a few in it. Real Heroes #1 from Image Comics!
They are the six most famous actors in the world and together they play The Olympians, the biggest superhero movie franchise in history. Would you ask them to save the world? They may be our only hope…
This book will be drawn AND WRITTEN by Bryan Hitch!
Image also has a monster week with Dead Body Road #4, Deadly Class #3, Fatale #21, Satellite Sam #7, and Walking Dead #124 amongst many others!
Oh yeah, the new issue of Serenity #3 from Dark Horse will also be out!
Finally, here’s the information on our Daredevil Appreciation Graphic Novel Sale!
We saw a really amazing opportunity to put some of the best comic book stories ever written into your hands at and incredibly reasonable price.
Daredevil is one of those characters that while relatively unknown to superhero fans outside of the comic book world, he has one of the richest and well written graphic novel selections this side of Batman. (bold statement, but true) We have hand selected eight Daredevil Graphic Novels that range from $15.99 to $34.99 that we are going to sell you for only $6 each! SIX DOLLARS EACH!
The list includes:
- Daredevil Man Without Fear (Classic retelling of Daredevil’s Origin by Frank Miller and John Romita Jr)
- Daredevil Born Again (Known as the greatest Daredevil story of all by the Batman Year One Team of Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli)
- Daredevil Guardian Devil (From movie maker Kevin Smith and art by Marvel’s Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada)
- Daredevil by Bendis and Maleev Ultimate Collection Volume One (The Start of Brian Bendis and Alex Maleev’s powerful run on Daredevil)
- Daredevil by Brubaker and Lark Ultimate Collection Volume One (Brubaker picks up from Bendis’s run and puts Daredevil in jail with the Punisher for one of the best comic book dynamics ever)
- Daredevil By Mark Waid Volume One (The beginning of what is now the current popular run by Mark Waid)
- Elektra Assassin (Frank Miller and Bill Sienkiewicz present a psychedelic story featuring Daredevil’s first love)
- Marvel Masterworks Daredevil Volume One (For you history buffs, the first eleven issues from 1963 with Wally Wood artwork including the ever popular Daredevil #7, consider to be the one of the best single issues from Marvel in the 60’s)
I’m even going to go as far as giving every one of these books an A grade. (Well, maybe Guardian Devil is a B-) There were other things we could have done with these books but being able to sell them to you at six dollars each is one of the reasons we love running a comic book shop! Daredevil is one of the reason people love comic books.
Finally here’s a heads up on an artshow we’ll be attending and sponsoring over at Break Neck Gallery! This is where we’ll be celebrating the Captain America Winter Soldier Movie release in two weeks! Come join us and be a part of Cleveland’s active art scene!
That’s it for this week! Thank you for tuning in and we’ll see you at the shop!
