Andrea’s Eight Eyed Picks For 04.19.2023
Hi Comic Shop Friends! It’s just over two weeks until Free Comic Book Day!
All the details are on our website, but the event will run from 10 am to 7 pm on Saturday, May 6th; there will be vendors set up in the Free Comic Room and a Kids Area set up in the foyer next to the shop. The posters are in, too, so you can grab one with any purchase! There are also thinner misprint posters to hang to promote the event if you have somewhere to hang one!
And this Thursday, the 20th, is Late Nite Comics! With our guest Chad Bilyeu, creator of Chad in Amsterdam, and The Re-Up! You know the drill by now – we stay open until midnight, back issues are 50% off, and the table will be filled with forty boxes of dollar stock! Chad will have a table set up to sell and sign his comics, so stop by!
(Winston requires your presence at these events. Do not disappoint him.)
MARVEL COMICS
Lots of good continuing series this week from Marvel, like Hellcat, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and Hallows Eve! And the lead-in to the new Avengers series, Avengers Assemble Omega.
An untold story of Adam Warlock and the Infinity Watch from Ron Marz and Ron Lim asks what happens when the next evolution of Warlock emerges. Someone who is stronger, faster, and smarter than Adam is an even more perfect specimen and will forever impact Warlock’s legacy!
DC COMICS
Silent Tales is a collection of six silent humor comics written and illustrated by Gustavo Duarte, featuring Harley Quinn, Cyborg, Superman, Zatanna, the Joker, and Lobo. Harley goes mallet shopping, Cyborg has a day off, Superman deals with bugs, Zatanna gets a new pet, Joker appreciates (or depreciates?) some art, and Lobo fights vampires!
After the events of Dark Crisis, Conner Kent feels out of place. The Superman Family and the rest of the world don’t really need him, so he looks for a place in the galaxy that needs his help. But fighting alone may be more than he bargained for, and what about the team that wants to add him to their kill list? Written by Kenny Porter, with art by Jahnoy Lindsay.
SMALL PRESS COMICS
From Cullen Bunn and Dan Schoening comes another Chilling Adventures one-shot! A thriller about fame and fandom and the consequences of meeting the Devil at the Crossroads. Bingo Wilkin is a world-famous musician and legend, and his legions of fans will do whatever he wants. And what he wants most is more power.
After his roommate kicks him out, Vin stumbles upon what looks like a murder in the park. But it’s not quite what it seems when Reynolds, a drifter, shows him the corpse of a giant spider. Now Vin can’t get the horror out of his head and joins Reynolds in his battle against the arachnids stalking the New York City shadows. Written by Steve Foxe with art by Piotr Kowalski.
“Terrors are the physical manifestation of our worst fears. No one knows where they come from.” This sci-fi horror series from writer Saladin Ahmed and artist Dave Acosta follows working-class Terrorfighter Muhammad Cho and his crew in Blue City, the last livable place on Earth, as they take down the Terrors and contend with another crew stealing their bounties.
