Andrea’s Insomnia Picks for 07.12.2023

Hi Comic Shop Friends!

We have new shop shirts! There are black and gray ones for sale for $25 each! We have small through XXXL. (Sorry the orange and blue are just for staff. We know you’re envious.)

If you read John’s email last week, you’ll know that we will not have a Late Nite Comics in July, because that third Thursday is the start of our Not-At-Comicon Sale! You don’t have to stay up late to get those dollar books, because the lobby will be full of them all weekend! Back issues, including the wall books, will be 50% off and everything else (Yes everything!) in the store will be 10% off! The sale starts Thursday, July 20th, and runs through Sunday, July 23rd.

And if you haven’t been paying attention, Dave Michelinie will be here on Saturday the 22nd from noon to 6 pm signing! We have a section of Michelinie books on our rec wall if you need to pick something up to get signed. All the details about that are in John’s email as well.

Next up in September, Phillip Kennedy Johnson will be here for a signing on the 23rd! He is the writer of the new unanimous staff pick, Incredible Hulk #1! We just restocked that issue, so pick one up now for his upcoming event.

Also, in his email were announcements for more special guests in October! Stay tuned for more details on those as we get closer.

We just got another new Miles Morales action figure in!

He comes with a cat!

We still have a bunch of the awesome Across the Spider-Verse figures!

There may be some more figures hitting the table soon from a collection, so keep an eye out for those.

MARVEL COMICS

This one-shot features three stories from writers G. Willow Wilson, Mark Waid, and Saladin Ahmed, and artists Takeshi Miyazawa, Humberto Ramos, and Andrea Di Vito, as Ms. Marvel’s and Kamala Khan’s friends, family, and teammates from the Champions and the Avengers deal with their grief in the aftermath of her death.

What if Thor hadn’t regained control of Mjolnir from Loki in the events of Thor #153? What if Loki had been able to pursue his plans, hammer in hand? Find out in Walter Simonson and Scot Eaton’s What If…? Dark Loki!

DC COMICS

It’s the second week of DC’s Knight Terrors event! This week is the first issue of the Knight Terrors mini-series, along with the Knight Terrors Zatanna, Shazam, Robin, Green Lantern, and The Flash tie-in issues!

In Knight Terrors #1 Deadman is our supernatural guide across the nightmares the whole world is trapped in. Using Batman’s body, Deadman tries to figure out who Insomnia is. Invading Insomnia’s mind gives Deadman some clues, and leads him to resurrect someone that may be able to help free the heroes. Written by Joshua Williamson with artists Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, and Caspar Wijngaard.

In the others, Zatanna teams up with Robotman from the Doom Patrol, Shazam gets dark, Tim Drake and Jason Todd get pulled into nightmare loops (and there’s a Batmobile bed), Green Lantern opens the doors to death, with Sinestro living a nightmare of not being feared, and The Flash has to deal with a monster in the lightning.

From the pages of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest, writer Mark Waid and artist Emanuela Lupacchino have a fresh take on the origins of the Teen Titans! A modern retelling of the early adventures of the team, led by Robin with Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder Girl, Speedy, and Bumblebee. Clashing over hashtags and live streaming rescues from Satanic ritual sacrifices, the team may not be as close as the public sees. Now a shadowy figure is out to tear them apart and start their own, better, Teen Titans.

SMALL PRESS

Most of our small press books are delayed this week, so I didn’t get to read new stuff, but…

There is a new TMNT and Stranger Things crossover! It’s 1985 and the Turtles help those Hawkins kids fight Demogorgons in the New York sewers! What else did you expect?
