New Release For 8-13-2025 from CNJComics

Hey everyone, John D here, and I’ll be writing the weekly emails for a few weeks while Andrea is convalescing after surgery. (Everything went fine, no worries.)

I’m excited to get the chance to do this again after so many years, so let’s get going…

Save the date for this month’s Late Nite Comics on August 21st!

We’ve decided to continue the format of last August’s Late Nite with another “CNJComics Gives Back” theme. All dollar stock sales that night, 8pm to midnight, will be donated to GenghisCon to help with expenses for their indie creator convention in November. It’s an important cause to us because it helps local creators to have a platform to showcase their work. We love our local comic art scene, and we’re happy to help when we can.

All back issues will also be half off that night, and that includes the wall books. Dollar stock will be the standard 50 cents each for a hundred or more. Hit that hundred bookmark! Remember it all goes to support local art in Cleveland.

We will also be teaming up with Genghis Con that night to host a Drawing Club that same night. Basically a chance to just hang out and draw with other local artists in the foyer next to the shop.

We will be providing free refreshments for both events, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Drawing Club 7-10, Late Nite Comics 8 midnight. I’ll be there myself to hang out, so local artists, bring your comics in and we’ll buy a few copies for our local comics section!

Alright, on to this week’s new releases!

NEW RELEASES FOR 8-13

The book I’m most excited about? The new Black Label Superman series The Kryptonite Spectrum!

]

Five issues mini series written by the creative team behind the indie horror series Ice Cream Man! Superman discovers four new types of Kryptonite and has to figure out what they do before Lex Luthor does. Batman’s along for the ride as well!

Next up for me will be the new Avengers original hardcover, the Veracity Trap by Chip Kidd and Michael Cho!

I’ve seen some pages from this book, and it’s beautiful, a true tribute to classic Avengers stories from the 60’s. Michael Cho is legit.

Next, and I’m going to be honest with you here, I’ll be reading the new Absolute Wonder Woman graphic novel, as I’ve never read the series yet. :/

We’re finally getting Absolute DC trades this month, and I’m ordering enough to make sure we always have them in stock (hopefully!). Last week was the Absolute Batman trade (which I have been reading issue to issue, it’s the best.) Oh yeah, last week was also the compact edition of DC New Frontier, and the Marvel Premier Editon of Civil War, both bargain priced. Pick up all three and you’ll be reading some of the best stories in our shop. (New Frontier is a top ten story for me.)

Next, I’ll be dipping into Predator Kills the Marvel Universe #1

What’s the big difference between this and the other three Predator Vs series that have already come out? Spoiler Alert: The Predators are going to win this one. Expect some pretty epic kills of some of your favorite Marvel characters.

For you Variant Cover collectors out there, August is the month of Marvel’s J Scott Campbell covers, and seven will be out this week. Dardevil #24, Eddie Brock Carnage #7, Fantastic Four #2, Laura Kinney Wolverine #9, Magik #8, Miles Morales Spider-Man #36 and X-Men #20. Let’s check a couple out here:

I’m a back issue guy by trade, and those J Scott Campbell covers still sell even after all these years.

Indie-wise, I’m a Kevin Smith fan, so I’m in on Quick Stops 3 #1.

More short stories from the View Askew Universe from the words of Kevin Smith himself. Four issues mini series in black and white (just like Clerks.) Stories will be from Chasing Amy, Dogma, and a touching tribute to Shannen Doherty after her death from cancer last year. I saw Kevin Smith in 2022, and he gave me a hug, it made me feel like the pandemic was officially over.

It’s just Ben and I this Wednesday, so my daughter Zoe will be coming into the shop to help out and work for the first time. Please let her know if you have a file when you come in and give her a second to find it. You’ve only got two more days of tax-free holiday, too, August 14th will be the final day.

It’s good to be back, everyone, albeit if only for a few weeks.

Okay, one more book. Bring on the Bad Guys Red Skull One Shot, because it’s always okay to punch a Nazi.

Always

John Dudas
