New Releases at CNJComics for 8-20-2025 plus Late Nite Comics

Hey everyone, you’re getting me, John D, again this week!

First things first, come join us for this month’s Late Nite Comics this Thursday, as CNJComics gives back by donating all dollar stock sales that night to Genghis Con! GENGHIS CON CLEVELAND

It’s our usual late-night routine with 50% off all back issues from 8pm to midnight on Thursday, August 21st. We’ll also put out boxes of dollar stock that will be 50 cents each for a hundred or more. As stated, all that money will be going to Genghis Con, Cleveland’s premier independent comicon, to help with their operational costs and whatnot. The con helps local creators to have a way to show their work off to the community. A Funko collection was recently donated to the shop, and all sales from that collection will also be going to Genghis Con as well.

These Pops are priced to sell, typically between $3 and $10 dollars.

Genghis Con will also be hosting a Drawing Club in the foyer next to the shop that night at about the same time, 7pm to 10pm. All are welcome to hang out and draw, and meet other local artists in a casual setting.

Refreshments will be served!

We’ve been asked lately when Tim Switalski would be at the shop to sign the custom cover he created for us for our Godzilla comic. Well, this is it! Tim will be signing copies of his cover around 8pm when both events are in effect. What’s more, we’ll be giving you a free copy of the book to get signed to make the night even more fun.

Local artists! If you’re attending the drawing club and you’ve produced a comic book for sale, bring some to the event we can buy to restock our local section.

So please consider showing up to this one, it’s going to be fun.

Now on to this week’s comics!

NEW RELEASES

I’m proud to say the top of my pile this week goes to the Marvel All-On-One One Shot featuring the Thing. (Marvel Two-In-One is  one of my favorite old comics.) 50 splash pages drawn by Ed McGuinness, who knows how to draw action, featuring the Thing versus everyone! So excited!

Next up is the story the staff has been telling me to read for months, the Aliens Vs Avengers graphic novel is out, written by the mind-blowing Jonathan Hickman.

The issues kept selling out so I couldn’t read it till now but everyone has great things to say about it.

The J Scott Campbell covers continue to roll out this month, and that includes covers to two new #1’s! All New Spider-Gwen Ghost Spider #1, and Black Cat #1. (Black Cat #1’s main cover is by Adam Hughes, which is also a winner.)

Other Campbell variants this week include Amazing Spider-Man #10, Imperial #3 (more Hickman!), New Avengers #3, Psylocke #10, and Wolverine #12.

Oh, hey, I also have to mention that we’ll be getting 2nd prints of the Marvel Swimsuit Issue in this week, I greatly underestimated the demand for this book the first time out, and we sold 50 copies in a day. Get one this time around, it’s fun.

On the DC side, the third Absolute graphic novel is out, Absolute Superman volume one.

I said I was going to keep the Batman and Wonder Woman in stock all the time but they’ve sold out at the printer so expect this one to do the same. We’ll do our best to order high when the next editions come out though!

Detective #1100 is a big anniversary issue this week, full of stories by top talent like Tom Taylor, Greg Rucka, Bill Sienkiewicz, and more!

The big indie this week is from Ben’s favorite writer, Rick Remender, Escape #1!

A soldier is on the run in a city that he helped bomb, and he’s got 24 hours to get out of town before his allies finished the job. Drawn by Daniel Acuna, who’s great at giving form to epic stories. Remender is always a winner as well.

I just hopped on Exquisite Corpses this week, and it’s one of my favorite books coming out right now. issue #4 is this week, so catch up!

“Every five years on Halloween, the wealthiest families in America play a game. Twelve of the deadliest people in the world are dropped into a small town with just one goal: last killer standing wins. For the citizens of Oak Valley, Maine—this year’s unlucky arena—the goal is much simpler. They must survive the night.”

The structure of the story is provided by James Tynion IV, who’s at his best here.

Finally, we sell a ton of the DC Compact Editions, which are slightly undersized graphic novels of DC’s best stories for only $9.99. We have a whole section of them in the shop, and that’s the format New Frontier came out in two weeks ago. This week, we have Azzarello’s iconic Wonder Woman run, drawn by Cliff Chiang. Really god heavy stuff and the beginning of one of Diana’s greatest epics.

Okay, I think that’s it. Again, help us help the community by buying some Funkos and dollar stock Thursday night! We love Cleveland and its art scene and are happy to help where we can.

Thank you! John Dudas
