MARVEL COMICS
The Age of Revelation continues with four new series debuting this week!
X years later, the Uncanny X-Men have been shattered by an immense tragedy. At Haven House only a few remain. They’re grieving, questioning why they were left to live, feeling loss and lost. They guard the portal to the underground city of Penumbra, where thousands of tormented souls live, to keep Shuvahrak, the Mouth of Darkness, contained. But there is something deep, deep at the bottom of the ocean that is stirring, and it’s attracting Shuvahrak. Can the broken team come together once more to stop the vast evil that is about to unleash vengeful souls crying for mutant blood? This is another Age of Revelation title that’s easy to jump into, and well worth a read. Written by Gail Simone, with art by Lucas Werneck.
Cold as Frost, hard as Iron! Writer Cavan Scott and artist Avairi Coleman throw Emma Frost and Tony Stark straight into an attack on Avengers Mansion. Six years ago, Revelation’s Seraphim, Phaser, Carmella Unuscione, and Marrow took on Iron Man, War Machine, Firestar and the White Queen. The fight separated Emma and Tony, and now Emma is searching for both her mutants, and Stark. Following sigils, she’s led back to New York, and the Heartless Queen is about to meet the Hellfire Club’s dangerous new leader.
X years later, Ororo has become the only god on Earth, but she’s become a mad god. Storm was once a protector of Earth, a nurturer, a friend, and an X-Man, but those days are long lost. Threatening to freeze the world into a new Ice Age, those who were once her friends must now stop her. Rogue is leading a team of former X-Men and killers, Gateway, Iceman, Fantomex, Akujin, and Warpath, on the long-shot mission. Can the Uncanny X-Force kill a god? Writer Murewa Ayodele and artist Roland Boschi are about to let us know!
The Vale Sinister has become a place of refuge for mutants looking to escape the X-Virus, and Mr. Sinister is all too happy to allow them to stay, in exchange for their willingness to be test subjects. He wants to know why and how the virus is affecting everyone, and he wants to know who’s behind it. In order to complete his research, he’s put together an elite strike force of Havok, Black Cat, Domino, Omega Red, and Lady Fantomex, all changed by the virus. What has he promised them in exchange for their assistance? How far will they go when there’s nothing left to lose? From David Marquez and Rafael Loureiro.
DC COMICS
DC K.O. tie-in issue! Before the heart of Apokolips turns the planet into Darkseid’s hellscape, the Titans have to evacuate everyone from Earth! Time is limited, but they have a plan. With Cyborg vying to be the champion to save Earth, the rest of the Titans will have to call in old friends and new allies to ensure they can transport as many people as possible. But with the team split up across the country, if something goes wrong, they others may not be able to help. The next major Titans storyline starts here, written by John Layman, with art by Pete Woods.
The origins of Barry Allen’s experiments at Fort Fox are revealed! Dr. Thwane recruits Dr. Allen to finally finish her grandfather’s work, but his original experiment went wrong. Will it succeed on Barry’s attempt? The past of the Absolute Flash universe is heading toward Wally’s present and future! What is the true purpose of Dr. Thwane’s work, and what does it mean for the future of the Flash? Written by Jeff Lemire, with art by Travis Moore.
Wonder Woman versus Mouse Man! Another excellent issue from Tom King and Daniel Sampere, and I want to give a special mention to how well Sampere is drawing action and the multitude of mice in this story. We’re getting some backstory on how Mouse Man came to power on the refugee island, and it ends on a hell of a cliffhanger. Mice have ears!
SMALL PRESS COMICS
They call him Saver. Part of a team of superpowered heroes, he has the ability to return to his save points, any moment of his past, and relive life from that point forward. Forced to watch tragedy and death repeat themselves over and over in order to find a solution, he remembers everything, but his teammates and those in the rewound times have no memory of what has happened. Faced with an impossible Armageddon, he cannot figure out a way to prevent it, no matter how many times he tries. Saver is ready to reset his life and return to his wife to live out the rest of his days, but his team won’t accept that. Threatened with a secret being revealed, they force him to find a solution. Look at this rad blind bag! I love a good Halloween theme! The new Mark Spears Monsters series has a blind bag as cover A, with one of 75 exclusive variants by Mark Spears! Grab one if you’re a fan of Mark Spears, mystery variants, or blind bags! I don’t know what the story is like, since they’re all sealed, but the synopsis is: In a desperate attempt to find a cure to the werewolf curse that haunts him, Clint Abbott’s journey leads him to the bitter cold of the Arctic. Through the snow and ice, he senses something is stalking him… but not everything is as it seems.
Terrorbytes is a new speculative science fiction anthology series delving into the darkness of technology. We are so intertwined with technology in our lives, that we don’t fully know how our consciousnesses are being shaped by our exposure. We don’t fully know what is in the shadows of our digital existence. The creators working on Terrorbytes are presenting stories that deal with identity, morality, and the hyper-connected world. In this first issue, written by Mark Russell, with art by Felix Ruiz, an android expeditionary force arrive on an Earth 100 years into the future. They uncover a recording device that shows them Ted Hawks’s newest invention: a headset that lets users spend their final moments of life reliving their greatest memories. As happens in these stories, there is a cost to one’s ambition…
