New Comic Releases for May 7th, 2014 at CNJComics

Well, we’ve almost got everything back to normal after Free Comic Book Day. We hope everyone had fun and we’ll have a recap email coming soon! We consider it to be our most successful event ever on many different levels. But till then, here’s some cool new releases for the week of May 7th, 2014!

Marvel’s big summer event is here with Original Sin #1!

WHO SHOT THE WATCHER?

The Watcher, the mysterious space-god who’s been watching us from the moon for as long as we can remember… is dead. Thus begins the greatest murder mystery in Marvel Comics history. As Nick Fury leads the heroes of the Marvel Universe in an investigation, other forces are marshaling as well and other questions are arising. Why is Black Panther gathering a secret team of his own, including Emma Frost, the Punisher and Dr. Strange? Who is the Unseen? What was the Original Sin? What was stolen from the Watcher’s lair? And most importantly, who now holds the Marvel Universe’s darkest secrets in the palm of their hand?

Well, Jason Aaron and Mike Deodato our up with this summer’s big crossover! Eight issues and so far it looks pretty cool. To help you get started we’ve got some incentives for you!

The first 100 people to by the book will get a free Scottie Young Lithograph that looks like this…

…and a Watcher eyeball. (Yes, you read that right. It’s a bouncing ball or something, with a pretty good balance actually.)

Let’s all grit our teeth and dive in and see what Marvel has to offer this year. (judging it is basically just as fun as reading it)

Next up is Amazing Spider-Man #1.1

YEAR ONE: LEARNING TO CRAWL!

Dan Slott  and Ramón Perez (the Eisner winning TALE OF SAND) bring you a new & reverent spin on the first 60 days of Spider-Man.

Marvel’s taking a page from DC and giving us a beloved characters origin story. I love Ramon Perez and couldn’t be happier with the idea. Some idea’s are contrived but it really is time for an awesome retelling of Spider-Man’s origin.

Want more Spider-Man? We’ve got it! Miles Morales Ultimate Spider-Man #1!

Miles_Morales_Ultimate_Spider-Man_1

PART ONE OF THE BIGGEST SPIDER-MAN STORY OF THE YEAR “REVIVAL”!

  • MILES is back in action with a new status quo and a new outlook on life!
  • A BIG BIG BIG villain from PETER PARKER’s past is alive and well and about to turn New York upside down!
  • The last page will have ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN fans SCREAMING!

Bendis is still on this book which is exciting. Ultimate Spider-Man as a run is legendary, to the point where I can remember Bendis coming into the shop and talking about sticking with the book as opposed to taking his dream job on Amazing Spider-Man. Quite simply put, buying Ultimate Spider-Man is always a good idea.

DC’s new weekly book, DC 52 Future’s End is here!

New_52_Futures_End

Five years from now, the DC Universe is reeling from a war with another Earth, leaving the world unprepared for an approaching evil that threatens to destroy the future. Can a time-traveling Batman Beyond help a massive cast of the DCU’s finest avert the impending apocalypse? Find out in this new weekly series that will forever alter the direction of The New 52! In this debut issue of The New 52’s weekly series, Batman Beyond arrives five years later! Grifter turns against humanity! And a Justice League member DIES!

Time to hop on board another train for awhile! Batman Eternal took me a few issues to warm up to, but it’s developing into a pretty neat ride. I think DC’s new weekly books will deserve at least 4 issues worth of attention as the scope is pretty vast and you need a few reads to figure out what they’re going for. Plus, Batman Beyond in mainstream continuity is a pretty big deal.

Want some more Image? We’ve got Nailbiter #1!

Nail_biter

JOSHUA WILLIAMSON (GHOSTED) & MIKE HENDERSON deliver a mystery that mixes Twin Peaks with the horror of Se7en!

Buckaroo, Oregon has given birth to sixteen of the vilest serial killers in the world. An obsessed FBI profiler investigating the town has suddenly gone missing, and now an NSA Agent must work with the notorious serial killer Edward “Nailbiter” Warren to find his friend and solve the mystery of “Where do serial killers come from?”

“If Josh died I wish he’d leave Nailbiter to me in his will so I could say it was my idea.” -Scott Snyder

That’s a pretty serious recommendation on a pretty serious book.

BOOM’s been giving Image a run for it’s money lately, and Woods #1 is a perfect example of why.

Woods_1

On October 16, 2013, 437 students, 52 teachers, and 24 additional staff from Bay Point Preparatory High School in suburban Milwaukee, WI vanished without a trace. Countless light years away, far outside the bounds of the charted universe, 513 people find themselves in the middle of an ancient, primordial wilderness. Where are they? Why are they there? The answers will prove stranger than anyone could possibly imagine.

Evil Empire and LumberJanes were two sleeper hits and this may be the next cool thing from BOOM.

Here’s one more Indie that’s a blast from the past, Chaos #1 From Dynamite Entertainment!

Chaos_1

With Chaos 20th anniversary and Dynamite Entertainment’s 10th anniversary in 2014, the horror-heroes of the Chaos! Universe return in an epic event! A shared vision of the Apocalypse sets the supernatural serial killer Evil Ernie, the blood goddess Purgatori, the vampire assassin Chastity and the outcast teen heroes of team known as The Chosen on a collision path with each other! As claws, blood and blades fly, only one outcome is assured: Total CHAOS!

As opposed to trying to develop a series of books after acquiring the license, D.E.’s doing it right by producing one book with all the characters in it.
