Holiday Party/ Art Show / Sale on 12-17-2016
We’ve had a great year at the shop, and it’s time to show out appreciation to our customers and community with our yearly Holiday Party, Sale and Charity Art Show!
Every year we host a party that has gotten bigger and bigger, even more so now that we put together an art show for the Cleveland Food Bank. Showcasing local artists creating custom covers to comic books, this show is done in conjunction with Pop the Comic Culture Club and Cleveland’s local Drink and Draw. The party runs from 8pm to 11pm on Saturday December 17th, but the art show and sale will be running all day.
THE ART SHOW:
All day on the 17th we’ll display custom comic book covers created by local Cleveland artists. This year’s theme is ‘2016, Worst Year Ever?’ 2016 may go on record as the worst year ever. Between the celebrity deaths, environmental disasters and political drama, we’re ready to raise a glass high in the air, have a toast and be done with it. Not sure what we’re talking about? If you don’t have sensitive ears, here’s John Oliver’s perspective that we share.
Granted Cleveland has had a pretty decent year, between a successful RNC, the Cavs victory, and even the Indians inspiring performance. Artists have been called upon to express the good and bad that was 2016.
The best news? These covers can be won through a basket raffle system where you can get tickets by donating food items or money. One food item, one ticket. One dollar, one ticket. Five dollars, six tickets. All of this money goes to the Cleveland Food Bank. Winners will be drawn live at the party at 10:30pm. You do not need to be present to win.
Here’s a new cover for the art show by Erin Schechtman Caruso, with Squirrel Girl sleeping in till 2017.

THE DAY:
In addition to being able to check out all the artwork early, we’ll also be running a massive store wide sale all day. These discounts will continue into the party as well.
(Yes, you can check out the covers and put your tickets in all day long, and it’s becoming a popular way of circumventing the crowd at night.)
- 50% off ALL Back Issues
- 20% of ALL Graphic Novels
- 20% of ALL Action Figures, Statues and Pop Funs.
- 10% off EVERYTHING ELSE in the shop.
THE PARTY:
All are welcome to our Christmas Party! As our first thank you, please print out this coupon and save 40% off any one item in the shop.
Coupons MUST be used at the party between 8pm and 11pm. (Sorry, no exceptions, logistically we can’t do it any other way.) Limit one per person. (You can also just show us this coupon on your smart phone.)
The first 100 customers will get a special gift from us upon checkout. You will get a free copy of the Hawkeye: My Life as A Weapon Graphic Novel by Matt Fraction and David Aja. This is one of our favorite stories and we wanted to share it with you. (Even if you already own it it still makes a great gift.)

Guess what? Since this is a customer appreciation party, we’ll also be giving away 50 copies of the Eisner award winning Captain America Winter Soldier Ultimate Collection by Ed Brubaker to the first 50 people in the door wearing an Ugly Christmas Sweater or other piece of over the top Christmas regalia. (If you have to ask if it’s over the top or ugly, it probably isn’t.)

So yes, by setting foot in the shop dressed for the holidays and making a purchase, you’ll receive two A+ graphic novels for your effort.
But wait! There’s more…
We’ll also have a sweet holiday pop up bar, serving FREE refreshments all night long.
The staff has been working diligently to bring you two different beers this year.
First is an easy drinking Wonder Woman Session Ale made primarily with Simcoe hops, in celebration of Diana’s 75th Anniversary this year.

The other will be a stronger Captain America Christmas Ale, brewed with cinnamon, ginger, and a bit more nutmeg than necessary. (Meant to be consumed during war time with your favorite Commando’s.)

There’s will be other beers, wine and non alcoholics as well.
Even though we have 140 22oz craft beers, come early if you want one! (when someone asks me if we still have them at 10pm I find myself wanting to give them a “there-there” pat on the back while simultaneously shaking my head in amazement at the question.)
While refreshments are absolutely free, our lovely bartender (Mrs Dudas is coming out of retirement) works solely on tips, so please do the right thing citizen. We will have special comics to give away to all who tip!
We’ll also have some snacks to keep your sugar up, including holiday chocolates from Fear’s Confections and bakery from the Burning River Baking Company
Fear’s Confection’s will have a assortment of holiday chocolates, and Burning River is putting together and amazing display of cookies and cupcakes featuring female Marvel and DC characters!

If you’ve been missing Carol, she will be making an appearance in her full Mrs. Claus regalia, escorted by our own creepy Santa Rick. We’ll have some cool photo op areas set up around the shop so be sure to charge your phone. It’s also worth noting that wearing stupid holiday clothes makes pictures event more fantastic.
As stated above, winners will be drawn for the art show at 10:30pm live, and you can walk away with your prize if you win one!
We’ve set the stage, and on Saturday we will fill it with some of the best people imaginable, our customers. It’s in everyone’s nature to want to do something for those in need during the holidays, and we’ve created a way to make it as fun as possible. Last year we collected enough money to help the Cleveland Food Bank to create over 12,000 meals, as well as collecting over 1,200 food items. Help those in need and join our comic shop family as we celebrate the holiday season at the shop!
