Action Comics #1000 at CNJComics

It’s finally here, Action Comics #1000 hits the stands this week!

This huge $7.99 comic features all original content including Brian Michael Bendis’ first Superman story with art by Jim Lee!! You can see the first four pages of that story HERE!

This book also features a story by Tom King which you can read in full in all its annoying digital glory!

Other than that, you’re just going to have to stop by the shop to pick up a copy! The line up of creators include: BRIAN MICHAEL BENDIS • JOHN CASSADAY • OLIVIER COIPEL • PAUL DINI • JOSE LUIS GARCIA-LOPEZ • PATRICK GLEASON • BUTCH GUICE • GEOFF JOHNS • DAN JURGENS • TOM KING • JIM LEE • CLAY MANN • BRAD MELTZER • JERRY ORDWAY • TIM SALE • LOUISE SIMONSON • SCOTT SNYDER •
CURT SWAN • PETER J. TOMASI • MARV WOLFMAN…AND MORE!

This issue also sports eight ‘decades’ variants, as well as a blank variant for sketches. All of these variants will be cover-price and the best way to get them is to come to our Midnight Release Event!

These include:

The 1930’s variant by Steve Rude:

The 1940’s variant by Michael Cho:

The 1950’s variant by Dave Gibbons:

The 1960’s variant by Mike Allred:

The 1970’s variant by Jim Steranko:

The 1980’s variant by Joshua Middleton.

The 1990’s variant by Dan Jurgans:

The 2000’s variant by Lee Bermejo:

The fact that they added the time appropriate cover dressing to each cover really makes then pop.

We ordered A LOT of the Jim Steranko cover as he will be at Free Comic Book Day this year for both the midnight release and day event! Even if we sell out of all the over covers this week, we should hopefully have this cover all the way up to and including FCBD. (But who really knows right?) Either way, it’ll be cool to have this book signed by Steranko in the City of Cleveland itself, hometown of the Man of Steel!

To celebrate this, we’ll be hosting a midnight release event this Tuesday, April 17th at 11:59pm till about 12:30 am. In addition to being able to pick up your book early, we will also have 50% off all Superman back issues, as well as 20% off all Superman graphic novels, including the 80 Years of Action Comics Hardcover released last week, a great collection of Action Comics stories including a new ‘lost’ ten page Superman story by Siegel and Shuster!

We will have the Action Comics 80 Years of Superman Poster in, which features all 80 covers of Action Comics and is a whopping 27″ by 40″.

There will also be a raffle for the Action Hardcover, as well as other prizes like free tickets to the showing of Superman II the Directors Cut at the Capitol Theater this Wednesday! (Ben will also be manning a table at the movie, where you can buy a copy of Action #1000 right there!)

Bendis states that he was inspired to leave Marvel Comics and write Superman after seeing the Superman exhibit at the Cleveland Public Library.

His first step was to return the red trunks to Superman, as seen in the above preview. This is an exciting time to be reading Superman comics in the City of Cleveland!
Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, it’s…Superman!
