Featured New Releases for 10-16-2019
Halloween ComicFest 2019 is right around the corner, but we’ve got a couple more Wednesdays to get through first!
Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, October 16th, 2019!
Marvel Books
It’s a big week again, with the lead book being Jonathan Hickman’s new X-Men #1, the first book spinning out of the House and Powers of X books.
Cyclops’ lead team is just that, a group of mutant powerhouses. Whatever happens from here revolves around this book.
Thanks to everyone who came out for our book club btw, it went great! We will be doing this again quarterly, so look for it again in January.
You can check out the whole live-stream on our Facebook Page!
Marvel’s going 90’s (again) and we’ll be giving out ‘Cards of X’ sets with your purchase of the book.
Each set has seven cards and we have enough to give a set away with every copy of the book. Buy three copies, get three card sets.
What else is going on at Marvel? Oh yeah, ABSOLUTE CARNAGE!
The issue before the last is always the “penultimate chapter”. Well, this is it. As always, great stuff here.
Other Absolute Carnage tie-ins this week include:
- Absolute Carnage Scream #3
- Absolute Carnage Vs Deadpool #3.
- …and one I’m really looking forward too, the Absolute Carnage Avengers One-Shot.
DC Comics
Over at DC, Superman Smashes the Klan!
Part one of a three-part series set in post World War II America and inspired by a story from the old radio serials. Written by Gene Luen Yang.
DC will be doing some ‘Dark Multiverse” one-shots set during key moments in DC history. This week Scott Snyder recalls Knightfall and the breaking of Batman’s back by Bane.
“Thirty years after Bruce Wayne was broken and failed to take back the mantle of the Bat, Jean-Paul Valley, now known as Saint Batman, has turned Gotham into the city of his dreams. In his new order, killing has become commonplace and criminals live in constant fear all in the name of justice. But just when all seems lost, a new hope for Gotham City rises… the son of Bane!”
Small Press, Baycon, and Comicfest
Only one issue has been out so far, but I’m a big fan of “Something is Killing the Children” by BOOM! Studios. This one lived up to the hype, just like Once and Future. (which I also recommend.) Issue #2 of “Something…” is out this week.
This Sunday is BAY-CON at BAYarts, and you’ll see lots of familiar shop regulars out there. We’ll be sending Ben to hand out some free stuff and work a photo booth.
It’s a mini-con for kids, to get them interested in the culture and to help some of the younger artists to present their work.
Both of my daughters have taken and are currently taking preschool classes there, so we’re happy to help out.
We already sent out an email with all the details about this year’s Halloween ComicFest, but you can check all that out here too!
