Batman and the Joker at CNJComics 9-30-2020

We’ve got  a truly incredible week of new releases, one of the best weeks so far this year.

Get ready! Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, September 30th, 2020.

DC COMICS

The big book this week is Three Joker’s Issue #2, which lives up to every expectation I had for it.

For the first time since Batman The Cult I like and empathize with Jason Todd. Issue one was a great set up but this one really cuts to it. Creepy and well thought out, with some ticks in Batman’s thinking that actually make sense conceptually.

We did get the premiere variants on this issue as well, and unless you specified one we’ll pick a cover at random.

Here’s a reminder of what they all look like!

One of the best parts of getting DC Comics from UCS now is that we have a few days to read them before they come out. That makes all the difference for two of this week’s books, the Batman Joker War Zone One Shot and Dark Nights Death Metal Multiverse’s End One Shot.

Batman Joker War Zone ties into Joker War with five short stories including Joker confronting by regular Joker War writer James Tynion IV, Poison Ivy protecting the green, Batgirl and Spoiler team up, Lucius Fox and the first full Clown Hunter appearance with surprise art by James Stokoe! (at least it was a surprise to me, he’s the best!)

Well worth the $5.99 price of admission.

Dark Nights Death Metal Multiverse’s End One Shot is a rag tag team of C listers protecting the end of the Mutiverse again by James Tynion IV.

Death Metal is Scott Snyder’s baby, but it’s fun to see Tynion put his two cents in. Super fun with Captain Carrot too!

MARVEL COMICS

Marvel’s not hurting this week either. Jason Aaron has turned Moon Knight into a force to be reckoned with in just a few issues of Avengers. (to be fair, we’ve always loved Moon Knight.) This issue we have a showdown between Moon Knight and the Black Panther!

My pick of the week is the Giant Size X-Men Tribute Edition! The original classic will be redrawn by 37 different artists, each one doing a single page.

Here’s a little video to get you as excited as I am:

Jeff Lemire writes an Immortal Hulk one shot this week in The Threshing Palace.

Beautiful art by Michael Del Mundo too.

If you’ve been following all the casting announcements and wonder who Shang-Chi is, he’s got a new number one this week.

INDIE COMICS

The big indie this week is the Department of Truth from Image Comics and , yup, James Tynion IV again. (in addition to his work on Batman and Joker War, he’s also done well with Something is Killing the Children.)

Imagine that every conspiracy theory you’ve ever heard is actually real!

Another fun indie, for me at least, is Stranger Things Science Camp #1.

So yeah, we get to finally see how Dustin met Suzie at Science Camp. Yes, I am a fan of the Never Ending Story.

Alright! That’s it for this week! See you at the shop!
