Artists Wanted and November Events at CNJComics
It’s that time of year, and we have an art show theme again!
This year’s Holiday Art Show to benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank is ….. “Spider-Verse!”
Here’s how you participate! Stop by the shop and pick up a blank comic cover from us. They are free of charge and you can do two if you like. Please complete the cover with any medium you choose. (This includes digital! Many people now print their art out on cardstock and glue it to the book’s cover.) Give us your rendition of an alternative universe Spider-Man (or woman!) The artwork must be turned in by Sunday, December 11th at 5 pm. Please keep artwork to the front of the cover only, we only have the ability to display them this way. When you stop by to pick up a cover, please connect with an employee so they can take down your contact information. We also use this info to promote you after the event through a Facebook Gallery of all the artwork! Artwork is displayed from December 14th to the 17th and won through a basket raffle system where one dollar gets you one ticket towards the cover(s) of your choice. Winners will be drawn live at our Holiday Party on the night of the 17th, all are welcome! This is your chance to turn your artistic skills into food for those in need during the holidays! This can be the one thing you do to help others during the holidays! Please share this info with any artist friends you may have!
Here’s a look at a few covers from previous events…

by Craig Worrell
by Tim Switalski
Last year, through their incredible ability to turn one dollar into four full meals, our community helped the Greater Cleveland Food Bank to create 17,704 meals! That brought our lifetime event total to 115,708! Thank you all so much for the support over the years, both by creating art and showing up to look at it!
CUSTOMER APPRECIATION
As you just read, we are committed to having our Holiday Customer Appreciation Party again this year for the first time since 2019. We’ll keep you posted on that but for now, just save the date for December 17th from 8 pm to 11 pm. (every year, we give attendees a coupon good for 50% off any one item to use at the party!)
On to November events! First up is Late Night Comics on Thursday, November 17th, from 8 pm to midnight! We’ll be pulling all the small press out of the back room and storage locker for this one, about 70 long boxes!
Everything is 50 cents each (no minimum required), and there will be some incredible deals in there! Boxes may be stacked, and you may have to dig, but we might put some overflow in the foyer for the night for easier browsing! We will also have 50% off all back issues, as in the past! Word of the street is that there’s a 90% chance that Jim Rugg from Cartoonist Kayfabe will be coming up from Pittsburgh to do some dollar diving as well. The Cartoonist Kayfabe is our shop’s favorite comic book podcast that Jim hosts with Ed Piskor from Hip Hop Family Tree and X-Men Grand Design. Jim is the creator behind Hulk Grand Design!
We’ll be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 24th, so the staff can spend time with their families and friends!
Friday, November 25th, begins our big Black Friday Weekend Sale, lasting till Sunday!
We’ll have 50% off back issues all weekend long, 20% off all statues and action figures, and 10% off everything else in the shop. We will also fill the foyer with dollar stock, Marvel, and DC this time, so the selection will be completely different than at late-night comics! Dollar stock this time is $1.00 each or 50 cents each for 100 or more!
Our sale continues on Saturday, but it’s worth noting that it’s also Small Business Saturday and a great day to shop locally at your favorite stores to sure your support. (Even if it’s not us!) Shop Small and feed the cat!
Finally, we will also be setting up at Genghis-CON this year on Sunday, November 27th, and running the final day of the Black Friday Weekend Sale.
Genghis-Con is the Cleveland area’s premier small press and independent comic convention. We are proud sponsors of the event and will also be setting up this year. Be a cool Clevelander and come and check out your local comic art scene.
That’s all we’ve got for now, but we always keep a few surprises up our sleeve. Stay tuned!
