Andrea’s Not-At-ComicCon Picks for 07.23.2025
Hello Comic Shop Friends! How psyched are you for Fantastic Four: First Steps this Friday? It looks like it’s going to be fantastic! (Haha.) We are blessed with comic book films this month!
I’m loving all the 1960s-themed promotion Marvel is doing!
It’s a smaller week for new books, so it’s a great week to set aside some time and come shop our sale!
Starting this Thursday! It’s our annual Not at Comic Con Sale! From Thursday the 24th through Sunday the 27th we’ll have 50% off all back issues, including the wall! You can take 10% off everything else in the shop, so grab those supplies you need! The foyer will be stuffed with dollar stock, and if you get 100 or more they will only be 50 cents each!

August 3rd, John will be set up at Neo ComicCon! This will probably be the only show he’s doing this year, so mark your calendars!
MARVEL COMICS
If you haven’t picked up the movie tie-in primer comic for Fantastic Four: First Steps, we have more in stock now! (There’s a picture of Pedro Pascal in it that John Shearer said looks like Burt Reynolds, and now I can’t unsee it. I’ve been thinking about a new Smokey and the Bandit or Cannonball Run movie starring Pascal in the Reynolds roles. Hollywood, make it happen!)
Since the movie has H.E.R.B.I.E and a pregnant Sue Storm, it’s the perfect time for them to put out a new printing of Marc Sumerak and Chris Eliopoulos’s Franklin Richards: Son of a Genius! It’s five stories of science shenanigans with a Calvin and Hobbes-esque Franklin! Franklin goes “Microscopic” to do his homework! Franklin learns that bigger isn’t always better in “Tons of Fun!” He’s “Veggin’ Out” when he sneaks a new device into show and tell! Franklin has to clean his room, “Weather or Not” he likes it! Finally, “Send in the Clones” for a tale of trick or treating gone awry!
Marvel hit us with a surprise title last Wednesday! If you have X-Men on your pull list, we put one of these in your file, and we’ll have a stack on the table this week!
Welcome to the Age of Revelation! The Revelation Territories, stretching from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River, are a mutant land ruled over by the Heir of Apocalypse. While on the surface it’s a kind of mutant utopia, the cracks are beginning to show, and the lie that this land was built upon stirs the flames of rebellion. Learn how this terrible future came to pass and what it means for the X-Men and the rest of the Marvel Universe in this kickoff special by Jed MacKay and Humberto Ramos.

Darkness. Shadows. Within us. The Middleton blackout is bringing out even more death, destruction, and chaos. John and the Martian are doing all they can to save whoever they can, but with everyone’s shadow double now a physical manifestation, they have to deal with double the teen looters, poisoners, and killers. One attack brings them closer to who is behind all of it, if John and the Martian can survive… From Deniz Camp and Javier Rodriguez.
Featuring an even trippier cover than Absolute Martian Manhunter! Within the maze deep under Area 41, Diana now has an ally in Ferdinand, and they must find a way to save the siren Petra from Queen Clea and her “men-fish.” But the maze has its secrets and it’s becoming more disorientating the deeper Diana goes. Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman are doing an excellent job balancing present Diana’s quest with young Diana’s upbringing in the Wild Isle. She is, as the storyline title says, “As My Mothers Made Me.”

The Kai-Sei era, IDW’s new Godzilla Universe, starts here! In 1954 experimentation awakened Godzilla, and more kaiju followed. In the decades since, humanity has been pummeled by monster attacks. Japan has learned that constant warfare is no match for the kaiju, while America has formed G-Force, a military operation designed to combat the giants. Pulling recruits from across the world, including Jet Jaguar, who can only speak in his 90s theme song! Learning that there is an American teen, Jacen, who can also harness the Kai-Sei power, G-Force brings him in, in the hope that he can save the world. But with that much power, he may bring about the end. With something else harming and disrupting other kaiju’s behavior, Jacen and G-Force may be in over their heads. Written by Tim Seeley, with art by Nikola Cizmesiia, this main series kicks off the Kai-Sei era, with more mini-series to follow!
We also have an awesome shop exclusive variant for the new Godzilla #1 done by local artist Tim Switalski! Grab one!
Writer Si Spurrier and artist Vanesa Del Rey present a four-part Cajun crime thriller, described as part Fargo, part Deliverance in the wet heat of the Louisiana bayou. Pregnant wildlife ranger, Sergeant Marie Burgau, is alone on duty after all the other rangers come down with “food poisoning.” It’s release day for a family of poachers, whose moonshining matriarch wants a word with Marie. One of the sons is off his meds and missing. Somewhere in the swamp, he’s full of rage and out of his mind on mushrooms. And heavily armed. Marie is not prepared to find him, and is not prepared to deal with what’s coming…
