New Releases for 8-27-2025 at CNJComics
It’s John D again, here with the featured new releases coming out Wednesday, August 27th!
First up, we’d like to thank everyone who came out for Late Nite Comics and Drawing Club. It was a huge success, and we were able to raise $1,104 for Genghis Con to help local comic creators have a venue for their projects.
Mark your calendar for the con on Sunday, November 30th, from 11am to 5pm!
Info on that here: GENGHIS CON CLEVELAND
On to this week’s new releases!
NEW RELEASES
Thor relaunches with a new #1, still by Al Ewing but you’re got a soft reboot with Thor walking around with a hammer and no memory of being a god, or anything about the gods for that matter.
It’s the last week for the J Scott Campbell variants, and there are some great ones in there.
Covers this week include Avengers #29, Bring on the Bad Guys: Dormammu #1, Death of the Silver Surfer #3, Imperial War: Planet She Hulk #1, Incredible Hulk #28, Thor #1 (yeah, the one we just talked about), and X-Men #21.
Be sure to grab up any from previous weeks you see still in the shop, because they’re pretty much all out of print.
Next, you’re going to get Immortal Legend Batman #1, a new Elseworlds title where Kyle Higgens brings his world-building talent on titles like Radiant Black to the Batman mythos. Big tokusatsu influence here. (live action effects, like Power Rangers and Ultraman. I had to look it up.)
Immortal Legend Batman – Everything We Know About the New Batman Elseworld Sci-Fi Epic! SPOILERS!
Hey! Want to read a great Batman story that’s finally back in print? Batman Year 100 by the indie king Paul Pope!
It’s been out of print for a bit now, but it’s a modern classic. In the future, technology leaves us with no privacy or secrets, so who’s this masked Batman that’s running around? Drawn to perfection.
Image has a new Universal Monsters title, and this one is by James Tynion IV! The Invisible Man #1 hits the table this week.
The book I’m most excited about is Brubaker and Phillip’s new Criminal original hardcover, The Knives.
It’s been over five years since we’ve had a new Criminal story! Three stories will converge into one in this book. Criminal stories stand well on their own, but have a backstory going on that’s worth paying attention to. If you love Crime Noir and have never read Criminal, you’re in for a treat
That’s it! It’s also worth noting that this is the time of the year that we get the most new collections in, when the weather is just right and the kids are off to school. WE ARE ALWAYS BUYING COLLECTIONS, so bring your stuff in on a Wednesday or Saturday, or you can make arrangements to bring them in on other days.
Thanks, and we’ll see you this week at the comic shop!
