DC COMICS

The history of the Absolute Arkham Asylum and the Ark M project are revealed! Scott Snyder and Frank Tieri, along with artist Joshua Hixson, present the truth (or what is possibly more of the truth than what was revealed in absolute Batman #15) behind the secrets of Ark M. Taken from the writings of Dr. Amadeus Arkham as a chronicle of the infamous place, it is also a confession, a warning. A terrible evil was once contained in Arkham Asylum, but there was a breakout, and Dr. Arkham has lived with the shame and knowledge that so many across the world have died because of it.  Decades later a buyer has come to inspect the property, and the dark secrets of the Asylum are coming to light… This issue has a new Absolute first appearance, and hints as some “friends” Batman may soon be meeting. You’re going to want to read this one.

If you haven’t been reading Absolute Superman, or were on the fence about the book, this is the issue that solidifies the character. Jason Aaron and guest artist Juan Ferreyra bring it all together in the start of a new story arc in the aftermath of the Battle of Kansas. This is Kal-El dealing with the profound changes in his life, learning to balance the daily life of a farmer and his new role as the man the world calls Superman. There’s work to be done, and we’re seeing how that work is affecting a young man pushed into the public eye after living so long hiding. We’re seeing his compassion. We’re seeing the struggle of him knowing he can’t help everyone, but wanting to help everyone. Give this book a shot if you haven’t, it’s well worth it.

Jo Mullein finds herself in the crosshairs of the bounty hunter Goldface! We had the mystery of the Green Lantern, we had the cosmic reveal of the different powers and abilities of the Lanterns, and now we’re getting into the real world. Jo learned that the ring does not work against gold, so how will she survive against a man covered in gold, with gold bullets? Hammond is experimenting with the black ooze from Evergreen. What he’s working on won’t be good for anyone, especially as he’s getting closer to finding Jo and Hal. With Cam’s fellow agents Simon and Kari showing up, there may be a new group of allies on the run. Can they be trusted? Written by Al Ewing with art by Sid Kotian.
