Happy Valentine’s Day Comic Shop Friends! Would you like a lovely week of comics to celebrate? Need a new title to fall in love with? We’d love to recommend our favorites, so come in the shop and pick up some comics!

My daughter, Zoe, is going to shave her head on March 6th to raise funds and bring awareness to Blood Cancer United as part of a school project. This was all her idea, and as her father, I’m a bit scared for her, but she has my full support and her confidence levels are high. I am very proud that she picked up on a lot of what the shop represents over the years. (It helps that she’s a big Lex Luthor fan too.) Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society) has a mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma while improving the quality of life for patients and their families. The organization aims to enable patients to gain more than one million years of life by 2040 through research, education and advocacy. MARVEL COMICS

Cyclops is about to be unleashed! Scott Summers has always had near-total control of his powers and emotions, but things are about to change. A meeting with Dr. Hanover reminds him that he wasn’t always so controlled, with Scott violently protecting his brother Alex when they were children at the orphanage. There’s a wildness within him. When he’s shot down in the Northern Rockies, that wildness may be the thing that helps him survive. He’s separated from the X-Men, lost in the mountains, without his visor. Cyclops now has to contend with Donald Pierce’s Reavers hunting him and a young mutant who escaped them. But the Reavers haven’t been trained to deal with the X-Men. It’s a trial by fire, and they’re about to run straight into the X-Men’s leader’s most savage core! Written by Alex Paknadel, with art by Roge Antonio.

It’s Moon Knight Day! Jed MacKay and Devmalya Pramanik’s new Moon Knight series starts with Marc Spector and Moon Knight missing. Marc has been kidnapped, trapped, with no knowledge of who he really is. He believes his captors are his employers, he works in the mail room, and there is one piece of mail he is unable to deliver. He may know the answer as to where it goes, and his employers demand an answer. Pumped full of fear gas, he’s starting to lose it, and he still can’t deliver this last envelope. Then someone shows up who may be able to remind Spector who he really is. Will it work? Will it upset his employer? Will he ever remember where that mail needs to go?

Deadpool is back in a new ongoing series from Benjamin Percy and Geoff Shaw! And it kicks off by ripping off (paying homage to?) the Val Kilmer classic, Top Secret! It’s the first time Deadpool is part of a “steak-out” as he destroys the Heartlanders, their drug empire, and himself! “What’s wrong with you?” He knows exactly what’s wrong. Wade’s dealing with a dark memory, and he’s not dealing with it well, taking the most dangerous jobs, intent on death and destruction. Dangerous. Unhinged. Deadly. The pain doesn’t stop the pain, and something needs to change. Good thing there’s a mysterious new client sending him notes that know the future, and this may be his chance to become a hero! If he doesn’t @#$% it up!

DC COMICS

The first new Vertigo title for their relaunch! Writer Deniz Camp has reteamed with artist Stipan Morian for a story of a world where zombies are the dominant species, with their own culture and society. Friends Poke and Mush have been happy to shamble through their undead lives, moving across the continent searching for living flesh. But Poke is hiding something. His heart has recently started beating again. How and why he doesn’t know, but he knows something is different, and he’s starting to question things. His place in the world, his humanity, the scarcity of the living, and why he’s started to develop a distaste for eating them. Is he becoming human again? How long can he keep his delicious heart hidden from the others? What does it all mean?

The penultimate issue of the battle for the DC Universe! DC K.O. #4 pits the final four, Superman, Wonder Woman, Lex Luthor, and Joker, against the trinity of the Absolute! These aren’t the Absolute Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman we’ve come to love, but something corrupted… Will the extra Omega energy the champions gathered in the Boss Battle be enough to take on Darkseid’s fighters? His essence is infused into every atom of the Absolute versions, and with a betrayal tipping the scales, who knows which way this fight will end? Who will be crowned King Omega? Will anyone be able to stop Darkseid?

It’s the first Absolute Wonder Woman Annual, and it is a gorgeous story from Kelly Thompson and Mattia De Iulis. Diana has been haunted by her brief experience becoming Medusa while fighting to save Gateway City. Seeking an answer, she prays to Athena. But there is no answer. She prays again and again. Over and over her pleas to help Medusa go unanswered. Diana knows how Medusa suffers, and wants to right this wrong. She continues her prayers until finally, finally she receives an answer. Her search for the truth and for justice will be an uncertain and deadly mission, but for Wonder Woman the risk is worth it to set just one injustice right. This is a beautiful story of the formation of history and myths, and of redemption and truth.

SMALL PRESS COMICS

EC and Oni have a Valentine for all of us horror lovers! It’s four tortured tales of love and obsession gone bad! With a classic EC Tales from the Crypt story, “Only Skin Deep” by William M. Gaines, Al Feldstein, and Reed Crandall!

Todd Price is holding out for “The Perfect Woman.” When he finally has the woman of his dreams, his eye starts to wander. She could have a better smile. She could have longer legs. She could have higher cheekbones. He’ll make her everything he desires, but what about her desires? It’s a Franken-fable from writer Amy Roy and artist Fabiana Mascolo.

Her home is a tomb since her love was “Dead & Buried” and she will not stop until she finds his unmarked grave. He may be subject to the ravages of time, but she is not, and must endure an eternal life of grief in Jordie Bellaire and Sebastian Cabrol’s story.

A couple looking to reignite “The Spark” book a secluded cabin, but the guests that just checked out are lingering. They have their own way to keep their relationship hot, and the arguing couple may learn a thing or two about romance, if they can survive that is. From writers Tini Howard and Blake Howard, and artist Arjuna Susini.

A young woman learns how to deal with a stalker with “A Pocket Full of Nails.” The police won’t help her, she’s being told to just give him a chance, or wait until he gets bored and drops her like an old bone. But she’s not waiting. And she’s not letting him hurt another woman. He f-ed around and now he’s about to find out. From Ann Nocenti and Dan McDaid.

Jordan Savage is trying to hold it together and deal with his parent’s divorce, his mom’s new milquetoast boyfriend Gary Williams, his long-distance former girlfriend Emmy, his twin sister Winter away at school, and his action-packed film project. He’s about to have an even bigger thing to deal with when he learns his dad is off fighting monsters. Actual monsters. And when one follows his dad and sister home, he’s about to have to deal with the huge family secret – they’re ancient warriors who have to stop the return of their long-thought-gone nemesis and save humanity! Winter’s into joining the fight, but Jordan is freaking out. Can Mom and Dad stop bickering long enough to save the world?
