Hello Comic Shop Friends! August is a bit of a quiet month for us, as we move from summer into back to school, so there’s just one event coming up, but get excited because it’s a great week of comics!
Next week is Late Nite Comics! Thursday the 20th, we’ll stay open until 11pm for our monthly sale event! We’ll be bringing out boxes and boxes of dollar stock, and back issues will be 50% off! It’s always a good time, so come on out!

Miles Morales thinks he can handle both his normal life, with school and a new crush, and his superhero life. Focusing on helping the people of Brooklyn, it seems like he may be right. He’s planning a date with the new girl in school, he’s got his BFF and “Man in the Chair”, Ganke to help him out, and he’s keeping the innocent safe. Until someone from his father’s past emerges. Now Miles and his dad are both targets of a villain set on vengeance! Can he keep his family safe without revealing who he is? Can Miles truly have it all, or will the past destroy Spider-Man? Find out as the next era of Miles Morales: Spider-Man starts in Bryan Edward Hill and Nico Leon’s new series!
This is a tale of two mortals. Two men who are not like the other, but are brothers in a way. This is a tale of Beta Ray Bill and of Sigurd Jarlson. This is a tale of life and of death. Beta Ray Bill battles Hela’s God of War, Tyr Odinson, in the edge of space. On Earth, Sigurd hears cries for help from a burning building. Neither man is Thor, but their ties to the God of Thunder lead them to acts of heroism. Bill must look past Tyr’s false promises of bringing him home, be it Earth, Asgard, or Korbin. Sigurd must answer the questions of death a woman in Black presents to him, not knowing of the war raging for the fate of the planet, as he tries to save just one life. This is the best Queen in Black story so far. Pick it up if you’re reading Mortal Thor, pick it up if you like Beta Ray Bill, pick it up if you want a single story about what makes a hero. Written by Al Ewing, with art by Sergio Davila.
The final issue of Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Adam Gorham’s Infernal Hulk! But don’t worry, there’s more to come as we get closer to Hulk War! Bruce Banner and Doctor Voodoo have one last shot to retrieve the only weapon that could stop Infernal Hulk, but it could cost them both their lives, and their souls, if they fail. What they don’t know is that Charlie may hold the key to turning the tide of battle, as she learns of a new power connected to her skinwalker abilities. The next four months will have Infernal Hulk Vs one-shots featuring Wolverine, Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and the Avengers. The Age of Monsters is here!
DC COMICS
Get all the dirt on Clayface before the movie this fall! DC has not one, but two titles with Clayface this week!
First, the second issue of Clayface: Celebrity Dirt is out and Basil Karlo is in Hollywood! Trying to find Basil Karlo. Or who he thinks is pretending to be Basil Karlo, because he’s Basil Karlo. The one we’re following just wants to get back on the screen and be a star again. The one he’s following is already a star, but you don’t want to get too close to him. Especially if you’re a young woman. Is he the same Clayface that’s following our Clayface’s neighbor? Or is it someone else? How many Clayfaces can Hollywood handle? Written by Jude Ellison S. Doyle, with art by Fran Galan.
Second, Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta introduce Absolute Clayface! As Bruce gets deeper into the conspiracy that Grimm is behind everything that has happened to him, he feels he’s uncovering the truth. But everyone around him doesn’t believe it. Is he right? Is he losing his mind? Is this the effect of Scarecrow’s methods? Plus some pretty big gut punches! Both literally and figuratively!
To tell another tale of the early days of the Dynamic Duo, Mark Waid and Chris Samnee’s twelve issue series returns! Batman and Robin have been working hard to clean up crime in Gotham City, and their partnership is getting stronger. Stopping a cult’s human sacrifices may be more like what they’re becoming used to, but after Bruce Wayne and his date are mugged by a street gang, things are shaking up! When a gang of kids can almost take down the Dark Knight, the Dynamic Duo will have to find out where they came from and who they’re working for. Time for undercover Robin! A fun read, and I especially enjoyed classic Alfred with a little bit of sass.
SMALL PRESS COMICS
The cutest book this week! And we have a shop exclusive cover! Hello world, it’s Hello Kitty! Hello Kitty has a podcast and she’s about to tell her listeners all about the doozy of a week she’s had! As it starts out like a normal day, we follow Hello Kitty around town and meet her friends, Keroppi, My Melody, and Cinnamoroll, leading up to a big dinner party. She goes on a walk, visits a bakery, and does crafts and cooking. Just like every other normal lovely day. But right as the party is about to start, something goes missing! Now Hello Kitty and her friends will have to find out who did it, but everyone is a suspect! A perfect cozy small town mystery for all ages! Written by Mariko Tamaki, with art by Cody Lemieux.
We’ve all heard horror stories of the terror HOAs inflict on communities, and their reign of rules, but this is truly an HOA from Hell! The Hansons move into Willow Park after Martin gets a promotion, but even before they’ve unloaded the moving van, they can tell something isn’t right. The kids, Liv and Owen, see some neighborhood kids, but they just stare and walk away. The president of the HOA immediately calls them out of the rules of the “covenants” they aren’t following, and asks oddly personal questions. When Clarie meets another mother who pushes homeschooling the kids like everyone else in Willow Park does, she’s wary. But what she sees one sleepless night is worse than any terrible neighbor they’ve ever had! It’s the Burbs mixed with some Stepford Wives, and a dash of devil worship in Cullen Bunn and Fico Ossio’s new series!
What if one of James Bond’s exes couldn’t let him go? What if she was a highly trained genius who was dead set on finding him? When Yumi met Richard she knew it was true love. But Richard works for MI-6 and he’s disappeared, and now Yumi is using all her skills to infiltrate what should be the most impenetrable facility and compromise their network. Yumi’s got the gear, the weapons, the car, the training, and the intel, but what she doesn’t have is the good sense to let this man go. Even after she learns that she’s not the only 00-EX tracking Richard. Doug Wagner and Hoyt Silva present a cutesy and violent Bond rom-com with a Billie Eilish soundtrack!
If you liked Corpse Knight and Principles of Necromancy, you’ll like Regicide. A farmer is pulled into a quest without knowing anything about it. He’s big, he’s served his village, he’s been brave and now the elders have sent him along with a masked traveler. It seems to be for protection, but the farmer has fought animals, never men. “Mankind is the least of our worries,” the stranger states, and the farmer does not know how true those words will be. As they travel, he learns the mission is an assassination, as the man in the mask intends to kill the king. Word travels, and their journey brings them in the path of bandits, witches, and creatures unlike anything the farmer has ever experienced. Patrick Kindlon and Ludovic Lalliat have crafted a story about taking down a tyrant, but not all is as it seems. Make sure to read the two short stories at the end, by Kindlon with Pramono Estu and Matt Battaglia for more of the larger world. The king must die.
