Featured New Releases for 7-3-2019 at CNJComics

It’s a fun little week at the comic shop with some unusual new titles. We’ll also be packing up some of the back issues and heading out to Youngstown for the Youngstown Comic Con this weekend! Another chance to see the amazing Jim Steranko as well as Jason Mewes! I’ll be attending a Steranko dinner a bit like the one we hosted here for FCBD last year. Anyway, here’s the featured New Releases coming out this Wednesday, July 3rd, 2019! “Small” Press Titles Robert Kirkman always said that Walking Dead would end when Rick died so, well, yeah… Walking Dead #193 comes out this week, as well as a reprint of #192 with a new memorial cover. If you’re looking for a couple decent Image Comics to replace Walking Dead with, we’ve got new titles from Mark Millar and Jason Aaron this week! Space Bandits is a five issue mini series from Mark Millar! “Thena Khole and Cody Blue are among the universe’s most wanted felons. Each the leader of their own criminal ops, they run heists across the galaxies-hopping...

Featured New Releases for 6-26-2019

I’m back from vacation! Kauai is amazing! I never got to do this week’s Facebook posts but here’s a quick round up of this week’s highlights! Marvel Titles It’s a great week if you’re a fan of Peter Porker, the Spectacular Spider-Ham! Marvel dropped the ball when Into the Spider-Verse came out by not having anything really in print. This week we have three new items, a new one shot special, a $1.00 reprint of his classic first issue, and a huge graphic novel of classic material. Everything about the Peter Porker the Spectacular Spider-Ham one shot is hilarious, from the main story to the back up. It feels classic and modern at the same time. Plus, he has drinks with Howard the Duck! Stand alone story too! No baggage! Spider-Ham first appeared in 1983, and he can read his first appearance for only $1.00! Captain Americat too! There’s also the first volume of the Complete Peter Porker, in case you want to branch off past that first issue. For you classic Wolverine fans, we’ve got a one-shot for you,...

Featured New Releases for 5-29-2019

Alright! We’re back in business after FCBD and we’ve got a huge week full of amazing stuff. (This is likely my favorite week of 2019!) Here’s the Featured New Release coming out this Wednesday, May 29th, 2019! DC Books Batman Last Knight on Earth will be the culmination of all of Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo’s work on Batman! It’s a new three issue DC Black Label mini series, just like Batman Damned. (you know, the one with the…) Batman works his way through a devastated DCU landscape with Joker’s head in tow. They say this is their final Batman story together. $5.99 prestige format. Another much anticipated book is the Superman Leviathan Rising Special! It’s up to Superman’s friends to save him from Leviathan! This will be Matt Fraction’s DC debut with Jimmy Olsen, as well as Greg Rucka’s take on Lois Lane, all wrapped in a story by Brian Bendis. Fraction’s beloved in the industry and Rucka is know for incredibly powerful female characters. Some books are worth the $9.99 price tag. Oversized and prestige format. Two of...

Featured New Releases for 1-31-2018

Featured New Releases for 1-31-2018

Here’s the featured New Releases coming out this Wednesday, January 31st, 2018. NEW ANNOUNCEMENTS It’s a fifth Wednesday of the month which typically means an eclectic mix of special and annuals, all off from the normal publishing schedule.  The week’s big release is Dark Nights Metal #5. DC will try to make things as dark as possible before the final chapter in issue six, which we now have to wait till March 14th for. Let’s just enjoy this one while we’ve got it. A great series for those that haven’t joined in, with a good blend of DC mythology and a modernized feel that  Snyder and Capullo have perfected. Since we didn’t have an email last week, here’s a reminder that Doomsday Clock #3 came out.  The series has now gone bi monthly. (I see a pattern here. Hurrrm.) Gerard Way’s Young Animal Imprint is crossing over with the regular DC Universe in this week’s JLA/Doom Patrol: Milk Wars Special.  Expect this weirder than usual story to run through Five One Shots, including the aforementioned JLA/Doom Patrol, as well as Mother Panic/ Batman, Shade the...

Some Bargain Graphic Novels and New Releases for 1-10-2018

Welcome to our first email of 2018! NEW RELEASES We’ve got a couple cool new projects from Marvel this week, as well as some discount graphic novel selections to help you start the new year with a great story at a great price. This week starts the release of Marvel’s new “Avengers No Surrender” storyline in the regular ongoing title. This 16 part story will run weekly and other Avengers titles will be suspended for the next four months.  This story is being billed as a modern ‘Avengers Disassembled’ so expect a deconstruction of the team featuring every Avenger out there, as well as the introduction of a classic Avenger we’ve never met before. (Remember the alteration of the Avengers Statue in Marvel Legacy #1?) We’ve even got a giant poster to give away with every copy, that’s a reprint of a classic piece of George Perez artwork. (I actually still have the original poster in the back of the shop from way back when.) The poster is actually double sided with the reverse side depicting a reimagining of Avengers...

Dark Nights Metal and Solar Eclipse

Dark Nights Metal and Solar Eclipse

Dark Nights Metal is finally here! We’ve read it and it’s everything we hoped and more. After an incredible journey on Batman, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have teamed up on a six issue mini series featuring the Justice League with Batman taking center stage. The book hints at classic DC History, Grant Morrison’s Multiverse, Vertigo Comics as well as Snyder and Capullo’s own Batman run. DARK NIGHTS METAL The journey will take months and there’s many routes to go. We always recommend just the core six issue title, then just follow the paths that interest you. Here’s a checklist you can print out and return to us at the shop. Here’s a good article laying out the checklist with more detail.  The Batman one shots will feature evil incarnations of Batman/Justice League member hybrids! Evil Flash/Batman! Evil Aquaman/Batman! This is a great way to get excited about the new Justice League movie as well!   We highly recommend checking out the first issue! The big two can do all the marketing they want but it all comes down to...
