Merry Christmas Comic Shop Friends! We closed up shop at 5pm on Tuesday, Christmas Eve and remained closed on Wednesday, the 25th for a little holiday and Christmas cheer. This week, new comic book day is moved to Thursday the 26th. Our fan-favorite Facebook live video Christmas Eve Late afternoon so you can go check it and get a look at the new table. We’ll check comments and upload the YouTube video on the 26th. I hope you all got to enjoy a relaxing holiday! The big thing this week is that we crushed last year’s donation total to the Cleveland Food Bank! Thanks to all of you who donated artwork, and all of you who bought raffle tickets, we were able to give them $8717! That creates 26,151 meals! An extra thank you goes out to the large donations from Kamm’s Plaza management, and the crew at NEO-TAC, the North East Ohio Toy and Collectible Club! 50% off back issues will run through the end of the year! We’re counting down to Christmas, Comic Shop Friends! We’re counting down to our Holiday events too! The art show is being put together as I write this, and starting Wednesday the 18th, you’ll be able to stop in to check it all out! And start filling those bags with your raffle tickets! We beat our record number of submissions this year, with over 150 covers! We have so many we’ll have two binders full of covers, along with the display wall, full of amazing art, so you’d better check those out too! Here’s all the information on this year’s Holiday Party – Art Show – Charity Fund Raiser for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank! The theme of this year’s art show is “Homage to a Classic Comic Book Cover!” Let’s dig into the Art Show first! We’ve been hosting out Holiday Art Show since 2012, even moving in temporarily online during the pandemic. We consider it to be one of the most important things we do every year, in great part because we couldn’t do it without you and the help we get from our artistic community. Since its inception, we’ve assisted the Greater Cleveland Food Bank in creating over 159,000 meals for those in need during the holidays and beyond. (159,000!!!) The Food Bank has the uncanny ability to turn one dollar into three full meals. Every dollar you put into the system in the art show has a very direct result you can measure and be a part of. Hi Comic Shop Friends! I’m finishing up this week’s newsletter from home (Feeling unwell, but it’s nothing contagious!) so the only book I was able to read early was the EC Shiver SuspenStories one-shot. That means publisher synopsis filling in the rest, and me falling more behind with reading new books! First thing, there are still some delays with small press titles shipping from Diamond, but we did get a couple week’s worth in last Friday, so Previews are in the shop, and those titles are in your files. Again, we thank you for your patience with this, and hopefully we’ll have more updates from them soon. Onto the fun stuff! There’s still time to pick up a black cover and create your interpretation of a homage to a classic comic book cover! Submissions are due back at the shop by 5pm on Sunday, December 15th, and we’ll have them displayed in the foyer December 18th through the 21st. Welcome to December, Comic Shop Friends! As we enter the last month of the year, it’s time to give you all a reminder to come in and clear out your files. It helps us clear out stock and get any unwanted/closed file books out for seasonal shopping. It’s also a good time to update your pull lists, so we can go into the new year fresh and get you all the awesome titles you’d like! Again, there have been delays with some shipments due to Diamond consolidating warehouses and the holiday affecting all of the distributors we use, so we are waiting on updates on some new small press titles and reorders. Thanks for your patience with this! We will be skipping Late Nite Comics for the month of December because it would fall during the week of the Art Show, and we’re gearing up for the Holiday Party. Since 2013 we’ve hosted a Holiday Art Show to benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, where local artists create custom comic book covers that are won in a basket raffle system where one dollar gets you one ticket towards the cover of your choice. We’re excited to announce that this year’s theme is “Homage (to a classic comic book cover)!” Here’s how you participate! Please stop by the shop and pick up a blank comic cover from us. They are free of charge and you can do two if you like. Please complete the cover with any medium you choose. (This includes digital. Many people now print their art out on cardstock and glue it to the book’s cover.) Give us your interpretation of the theme, which we see as a tribute to a classic comic book cover.
