Featured New Releases and FCBD Summer at CNJComics

Just a quick one this week as I’m on the road! Joker War is heating up and is a great read. Batman #95, Batgirl #47 and Detective #1024 are all a part of it. Be sure to add crossovers to your file, or talk to a staff member about which ones you want. I’m ordering up but they’re selling out and UCS seems to have little to no reoder capabilities at this time. Empyre continues at Marvel with issue #2 as well as Empyre Avengers #1 and Empyre X-Men #1. Spider-Man starts a new story arc with a one shot that gives us some back story on the Sin Eater. (He’s kind of the guy who pissed Eddie Brock off enough to become Venom> The first Saturday of Free Comic Book Summer went great. There were no bigs lines and it was a slow trickle all day long, which is actually perfect. Wear a mask, sanitize your hands, and keep your distance! Oh yeah, if you don’t feel well, stay home! The books left over for the day go out...

Happy 4th of July weekend! Marvel and DC only have new graphic novels this week, but Image and Robert Kirkman have filled the void with a NEW Walking Dead story and a NEW original graphic novel! 4th of July Sale First up, to help stimulate some sales this week in light of the lack of new comics, we will give 50% off back issues from Monday June 29th to Sunday July 5th! The Books To help comic book shops, Robert Kirkman has written a new Walking Dead Negan Lives comic! They provided us with the comics for free and they retail for $4.99, so every sale goes to help comic shops out during the pandemic! Classy move Kirkman! They also timed this with the releases of Robert’s new ongoing title, Fire Power, which is sort of his take on the Iron Fist mythos. This...

I never wanted to board up the windows of our shop, but I thought about it for a moment there. That made me realize I’d rather stand behind the values I learned reading comics as a kid then operate behind a wall of fear. Instead, I decided to commission some artwork to hang in our windows that remind me of those values, that we are always stronger when our friendships include as much diversity as possible. That’s something I feel I can stand proudly in front of. Captain America meets the Falcon in 1969. Steve Rogers is the World War II hero that came home to a Vietnam welcome. He spends a great deal of that time alone, and suffering from PTSD from losing his best friend in the war. When he runs into Sam Wilson he not only needs a friend, he needs something to widen his gaze enough to look beyond his own issues. Help others to help yourself. Sam needs someone to point him in the right direction to assume the mantle of the Falcon, as much...

Green Lantern 80th and FCBD Summer at CNJComics

It’s the first truly “full” new comic book week since the pandemic first shut us down in March! Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, June 24th, 2020! DC Titles Green Lantern gets his own 80th Anniversary Special this week. All of these books have been super fun and we keep selling out and getting them back in. 100 pages and $9.99 with stories by Geoff Johns, the late great Dennis O’Neil and lots, lots more. Batman continues to be a great read as we head into the Joker War. It’s like this cover is almost pandering to the tragedy in Columbine. Yikes. We’ve been doing great with DC Black Label titles, and we’ve got two really good ones this week. Batman the Killer Smile is a one shot follow up to Joker the Killer Smile by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino, told from Bruce Wayne’s vantage point. Harley Quinn and the Birds of Prey #2 (of 4) is written and drawn by Amanda Conner, so that should be all you need to know. Both books are for...
