Marvel Legacy and Dark Days Metal at CNJComics 10-4-2017

It’s one of those really terrific weeks at the comic shop, with loads of new product hitting the shelves. Here’s the featured new releases for Wednesday, October 4th, 2017. MARVEL LEGACY This is the first week for the new Marvel Legacy titles. Each book is a new starting point with some component that pulls in some of Marvel’s rich history. Each issue also features three extra primer pages to give you a quick recap of the character or team featured in the book. Marvel has returned to ‘Legacy Numbering’, and where appropriate, has given a numbering guide to show you how they got to where they are today. Here’s a few examples of this week’s stand out Legacy titles: Avengers #672 : Written by Mark Waid and springing out of the Generations One Shots, it’s the Avengers verse the Champions! And here’s how they came up with issue #672. Iron Fist #73: Featuring Sabertooth, who made his first appearance in the title way back in issue #14 in 1977. Venom #155: Featuring the return of classic Venom artist Mark Bagley...

Marvel Legacy #1 at CNJComics 9-27-2017

This is it! Marvel Legacy #1 comes out this Wednesday, September 27th, 2017! This is the beginning of Marvel’s new direction and their answer to DC’s Rebirth last year.  MARVEL LEGACY This issue features the return of the first of many classic Marvel characters. (I know who it is, and it is a big deal. The reveal made me breathe a big sigh of relief.) This issue also introduces the Avengers of one million BC, whose roster includes many of Marvel’s iconic characters who pass their mantle on over the generations, such as Doctor Strange, Phoenix, Iron Fist, Black Panther, Ghost Rider, Odin and Starbrand. Here’s a brief video from Marvel explaining the focus of their initiative: VARIANT COVERS We will be carrying 15 different covers for this book, but we’re proud to say that we will be selling the main cover for $2.99 instead of the listed $5.99. We qualified for a deal from Marvel and we’re passing that savings on to you. We want to get this book into as many hand as possible.!You will also receive a free...

Batman Day 2017 on 9-23-17 at CNJComics

Batman Day 2017 on 9-23-17 at CNJComics

This Saturday, September 23rd, is Batman 2017. We pretty much knocked it out of the park the first year, but since then the day has been commodified by big box stores.  This year we will have a simple system to hand out the free merchandise so that you don’t have to deal with the cold feeling those lofted ceiling give you in your soul.  This year the day has been hijacked by Harley Quinn, to celebrate her 25th Anniversary!  So, stop in the shop on Saturday and you’ll get three exclusive comics free with any purchase! Batman Day 2017 Special Edition. A reprint of ‘I Am Bane’ part one by Tom King with a Dark Knight Returns Homage cover.  Harley Quinn Batman Day 2017 Special Edition. A reprint of ‘Joker Loves Harley’ part one, as a newer, kinder Joker tries to win Harley back.  DC Super Hero Girls Batman Dat 2017 Special Edition. The first chapter of the upcoming ‘Out of the Bottle’ graphic novel.  We have lots of these to give away, so we should be good for all day Saturday and Sunday.  We’ve also...

Celebrate Jack Kirby’s Centennial here with us on 9-16-17

Celebrate Jack Kirby’s Centennial here with us on 9-16-17

We’re excited to finally announce the plans for our Jack Kirby Centennial Event! While Jack’s actual 100th Birthday was on August 28th, we’ve decided to hold our event on Saturday September 16th from 10am to 7pm. UPDATES! The two big things we have to add involve other businesses in the plaza: First up, Working Class Brewery next to the shop will have two beers available on the day, a Devil Dinosaur Red Ale and a ‘King’ Kirby IPA. Stop by between noon and 8pm and try them out, get a free comic, and they’ll donate 10% of the sale to the Hero Initiative! We’re planning on going down to the brewery as a group after the day is done between 7pm and 8pm to enjoy our first taste of the beers, so stop by and hang out with the CNJ Crew for awhile! Second, the Kamm’s Corner Ice Cream Company will be doing the same with their Kirby Krackle Ice Cream, so please consider engaging them on the day as well.  We’re excited that both of these businesses have opened up in our plaza, and we hope...

Featured New Releases for 9-6-2017

Featured New Releases for 9-6-2017

Generations continues, Venomverse begins, the countdown to the Last Jedi starts, Bombshells begins anew and some pretty swell Omnibuses dot this weeks new release landscape.  Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, September 6th, 2017.  FEATURED RELEASES We’ve got another month of Generations One Shots until Legacy #1 on September 27th. This week’s team up is classic Iron Man (hopefully drunk, but I think Riri has already experienced that) with Iron Heart by Brian Bendis. It looks like Infamous Iron Man (which I really like, being a Doom fan and all) and Invincible Iron Man will combine after the events of Legacy #1, as we’ll find out who really gets to carry the mantle.  FEATURED RELEASESIf there’s one thing people can never get enough of it’s Venom and Thanos. Marvel gets it right when they pull these dream ideas out of our childhood, like a Hulk/Wolverine hybrid, or in this case a rag tag team of Venomized superheroes led by the original Venom.  This five issue mini will also be supplemented by Venomverse War Stories, with this week’s issue featured...

Dark Nights Metal and Solar Eclipse

Dark Nights Metal and Solar Eclipse

Dark Nights Metal is finally here! We’ve read it and it’s everything we hoped and more. After an incredible journey on Batman, Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo have teamed up on a six issue mini series featuring the Justice League with Batman taking center stage. The book hints at classic DC History, Grant Morrison’s Multiverse, Vertigo Comics as well as Snyder and Capullo’s own Batman run. DARK NIGHTS METAL The journey will take months and there’s many routes to go. We always recommend just the core six issue title, then just follow the paths that interest you. Here’s a checklist you can print out and return to us at the shop. Here’s a good article laying out the checklist with more detail.  The Batman one shots will feature evil incarnations of Batman/Justice League member hybrids! Evil Flash/Batman! Evil Aquaman/Batman! This is a great way to get excited about the new Justice League movie as well!   We highly recommend checking out the first issue! The big two can do all the marketing they want but it all comes down to...
