Wonder Woman Symposium and In-Store Creator Signing 9-22-2016

Kent State has teamed up with the Cleveland Public Library to celebrate Wonder Woman’s 75th anniversary and to take a look at the changing roles of women within the pages of comic books. We’re lucky to be a part of the opening night festivities by hosting an in store creator signing with some of the visiting speakers, Phil Jimenez and Cameron Stewart. Both writer/artists will be at the shop for a signing on Thursday, September 22nd from 8pm to 10pm. We have decided to make this a celebration of women in comics in general, and we’ve come up with some pretty cool stuff to check out that night!

BATMAN DAY This day has really been taken over by big box retailers, after it’s initial success in local comic shops. We still like celebrating one of the greatest characters in comicdom and pop culture in general.

Jack Kirby’s 99th Birthday

This Sunday is Jack Kirby’s 99th birthday, and we’ll helping the Kirby4Heroes Campaign to raise funds for the Hero Initiative! This Saturday and Sunday (August 27th and 28th) we’ll be donating 10% of all sales to help senior comic book creators who need financial assistance. Hero Initiative & Kirby4Heroes This campaign is spearhead by Jack’s Granddaughter Jillian Kirby, and shops all over the country are participating on different levels. We can never thank Jack enough for his contributions to the industry, looking back to when I was five I can remember Kirby’s artwork standing out from the rest. (Specifically Fantastic Four #22 and Captain America #208) It’s great to see his granddaughter carrying on his legacy while helping people from his generation. Jim Lee’s Suicide Squad & More

Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, August 17th. SUICIDE SQUAD This week’s lead title is the new Suicide Squad #1, featuring artwork by Jim Lee! Part of DC’s commitment to Rebirth was getting Lee on a regular title. Since the Squad was in the spotlight he hopped on board this title. He’s doing half the book with a Deadshot backup. Jim Lee Harley Quinn, right!!? Love it or hate it, the Squad’s new look is a big thing for DC. Supergirl gets her Rebirth #1 special this week, with renewed interest in the character after the success of the television show. In case you waited, the full Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Hardcover is out. CIVIL WAR & BRIGGS LAND Civil War is trudging along, and even though I’m enjoying it, it’s hard for me to get around some of the choices being made and the characterizations of certain characters. Good Day Cleveland Comic Lovers! The Big Boss is on vacation this week. His lovely family and he have escaped the country and are enjoying some serious fun in the sun! I will be your host this week and the next; here to let you know all the fun and new stuff happening at Carol and Johns Comic Shop. KAMM’S MAGAZINE HAPPENINGS Some fun happening for two of our employees this week: Carol and Ben both have articles featured in the FREE Kamm’s Corners Magazine. Carol was featured for her fantastic accomplishments of keeping all of our butts in line and running a local comic shop through some bubbles in the 90s. She successfully (and fully) retired last month. And Ben was assigned a full page to guide you through the wild and wonderful experience of playing Pokemon Go through-out Kamm’s Corners and the West Park Neighborhood. Suicide Squad and Harley Quinn are here

After literally a year since the first trailer, Suicide Squad will be hitting the theaters this Friday, August 5th. DC has timed it’s new Rebirth releases to perfectly coincide with this much anticipated movie. DC has two new titles this week, Harley Quinn #1 and Suicide Squad Rebirth #1, both only $2.99 each.
