We’ve got Secret Wars #4, some great give-a-ways and a few cool indies this week.

Here’s the featured new releases coming out Wednesday, July 1st, 2015.

Secret Wars has been the hit of the summer, a very intelligent well crafted story line that allows you to investigate different areas of Battleworld as you see fit. The fourth issue of the core series comes out this week.

Secret Wars 4Marvel has released another freebie to go with this release, the Secret Wars Battle Standee One Sheet!

Secret Wars Battle StandeeWe’ll give out one FREE with the purchase of a copy of Secret Wars #4.

If you’re trying to figure out what “our” Marvel Universe is doing during Secret Wars, it’s all going down in Ultimate End by Ultimate Universe creators Brain Bendis and Mark Bagley.

Ultimate End 3This five issue mini series showcases the Marvel Universe and Ultimate Marvel Universe fighting and teaming up in the classic Marvel manner. We like to think of this book as an emotional safe haven during the chaos of the war.

Other Secret Wars titles this week include A-Force, Future Imperfect,Giant Size Little Marvel AVX, Secret Wars Journal, X-Tinction Agenda, Years of Future Past and Red Skull #1!

The internet is abuzz today as Marvel has announced 45 of the new 60 titles that will be a part of their All New All Different Marvel coming this October post Secret Wars.

All New All Different Marvel PreviewsThis information is being released now to coincide with San Diego Comicon next week, but right now we’ve got an All New All Different Marvel Preview guide that we’ll be handing out FREE with any purchase this week. (Not to worry, we’ve got a lot!)

Indie Spotlight

We’ve also got some significant indie titles breaking their way into the spotlight.

First up is huge. We Stand on Guard #1 by Brian Vaughan and Steve Skroce.

We Stand One Guard 1SAGA writer BRIAN K. VAUGHAN teams with artistic legend and MATRIX storyboard artist STEVE SKROCE for an action-packed military thriller that will have everyone talking. 100 years from now, a heroic band of Canadian civilians must defend their homeland from invasion…by the United States of America! The hyper-detailed combat between badass freedom fighters and giant f***ing robots begins with a spectacular 40-PAGE FIRST ISSUE for the regular price of just $2.99!

We will be giving the first issue to anyone who gets Saga but be sure to add it to your list to get the second issue!

Next up is Grant Morrison’s 18 Days #1.

Grant Morrison 18 daysFrom legendary creator Grant Morrison (All-Star SupermanBatman & RobinThe Invisibles), comes the first chapter in his newest creation. 18 Days is the story of three generations of super-warriors, meeting for the final battle of their age, a climactic war that concludes the age of the gods and begins the age of man. “This is not a Lord of the Rings or a Star Wars where the good guys win because they are right. The good guys in 18 Days are forced to cheat and lie and break rules to win. Although it has fantastic, mythic trappings, this is a very modern story of realpolitik and the failure of ideals in the face of harsh truth.” – Grant Morrison.

You either like Grant or you don’t, so get ready to wrap your head around this one.

Our third selection caught my eye, Spire from BOOM Studios.

Spire 1The Spire is a mountain of metal and stone that rises out of the middle of the desert, containing a vast city of twisting tunnels, grinding elevators, and ancient machinery, and home to over a million human and non-human residents. Shå, the last of the Medusi, is responsible for keeping watch over them as Commander of the City Watch, despite the fact she isn’t shown any respect due to her race. When a string of grisly murders is committed just as a new Baroness of the Spire is about to be sworn in, Shå will have to find the serial killer and bring them to justice. But the new Baroness has a deep hatred of non-humans, and Shå will have more than one enemy at her back.

Boom has been dong a great job of selecting new titles this year, and issue first issue that looks interesting deserves a one issue look.

Finally, Will Eisner’s the Spirit returns to comics written by Matt Wagner!

Will Eisner Spirit 1In celebration of the 75th anniversary of Will Eisner’s iconic and ground-breaking character, Dynamite Entertainment is proud to present an all-new ongoing series featuring THE SPIRIT.  Scripted by Eisner Award-winning author, Matt Wagner, this monthly title will delight longtime fans as well as help introduce a whole new generation of fans to the character.  Set in the classic period of The Spirit’s golden age, the 1940s, the first 12-issue story arc follows the strip’s most beloved characters, Commissioner Dolan, his daughter Ellen, Ebony White and Sammy as they attempt to un(CA) why The Spirit has been missing, and presumed dead, for the past two years. Has the famous blue-masked hero finally fallen victim to one of the malicious felons or beautiful femme fatales from his lengthy rogues’ gallery of enemies?  In the words of Central City’s most prominent headlines: “WHO KILLED THE SPIRIT?” Illustrated by Dan Schkade and colored by Brennan Wagner, this series will strive to honor the vital and prestigious legacy of one of comicdom’s most talented and influential creators – Will Eisner.

I wish Wagner was doing the art too, but his style is so influenced by Eisner’s it will be cool to see him at least write a tribute to his work.
