Featured New Releases for 3-20-2019

We’ve got some super fun stuff this week as well as some pretty epic books on the horizon.

Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, March 20th, 2019!

FEATURED RELEASES

I’m really excited about this one, Chip Zdarsky has proven his worth at Marvel over the past couple of years, and this looks to be a highlight of his work.

Spider-Man Life Story #1 starts an odyssey that will take Peter Parker across six decades in a six issues mini-series, aging appropriately as he goes along.

Peter’s 15 years old in 1962, and will be 72 when the story hits modern day. Great concept that Chip will nail, and he has Ultimate Spider-Man alumi Mark Bagley on board to do the artwork.

While we’re on the subject of Spider-Man, this week also sees the launch of an entirely new universe with Spider-Man City at War #1.

This book will take place in the new video game’s universe!

This week we have another first, Conan will be crossing over with the Avengers in Avengers No Road Home #6.

Specifically, Scarlet Witch will be entering the Hyborian Age, but Conan will be on the upcoming Savage Avengers team, which will make its debut in a Free Comic Book Day book!

This week we’ve also got Marvel’s new cover priced CAT VARIANTS! Marvel will have six different cat variants this month, and five of them are out this week. They include:

  • FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #4
  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #3
  • WOLVERINE: INFINITY WATCH #2
  • MEET THE SKRULLS #2
  • THOR #11

DAREDEVIL #3 will be out next week.

Each cover will have a nine-panel layout and will be pretty limited, so be sure to get in right at noon if you want any. Check them all out here!

On that note, Winston’s ‘GOOSE” cosplay was featured on FOX 8’s morning show.

I hate that stupid cat.

HELLBOY DAY

This Saturday, March 23rd will be Hellboy Day! That means everyone will get a FREE copy of the Hellboy Seeds of Destruction 25th Anniversary Edition (the book that really started it all) as well as other free stuff that will be given away with any Hellboy purchase.

We just restocked our graphic novel selection so we should be good to go. All the info on the day is here: www.darkhorse.com/Blog/2816/dark-horse-announces-hellboy-day-2019

To really appreciate what the new movie looks like, you’ve got to watch the red and trailer. Sorry. Get ready for swearing and blood.

David Harbour has some pretty big shoes to fill, but Hopper is a great character on Stranger Things, and if we can’t have Ron he’ll have to do.

DETECTIVE 1000

Mark your calendars for next Tuesday, as we’ll be having a midnight release party for Detective Comics #1000 at 11:59pm on March 26th.

We usually stick around from midnight until 12:30 or so, and we’ll be ending with a raffle for a Batman Jeff Loeb Absolute Edition. You’ll also get the first pick at which decades cover you’d like, as well as a Midnight Release variant, all of which will be cover-price.

Look at this line up:

  • Kevin Smith and Jim Lee
  • Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev
  • Warren Ellis and Becky Cloonan
  • Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen
  • Denny O’Neil and Steve Epting (a sequel to O’Neil’s 1976 DETECTIVE COMICS story “There’s No Hope in Crime Alley”)
  • Christopher Priest and Neal Adams
  • Geoff Johns and Kelley Jones
  • Tom King, Tony Daniel, and Joëlle Jones
  • Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo
  • James Tynion IV and Alvaro Martinez

We’ve gotten a look at this book and it’s worth the trip out to the store. We’ll also give you 50% of any Batman back issues, as well as 20% off any Batman Graphic Novels during that half hour.

If you miss the midnight release, we should have more than enough comics to make it to Wednesday. You will also be able to but all your new comics early at the midnight event.

WAR OF THE REALMS

Also coming up is the culmination of Jason Aaron’s work on Thor, with War of the Realms #1 on Wednesday, April 3rd.

This is Marvel first big crossover in a while, and we’re ready for it. In a nutshell, Midgard (Earth) is the last of the ten realms to be conquered by Malekith, and the battle finally arrives on Earth. We’ve seen lots of great imagery including Daredevil as the new Heimdall, Punisher fighting Frost Giants in New York, and the return of Jane Foster. Lots of covers to choose from, but the big draw is Jason Aaron himself writing it, all of his Thor work has been off the hook.

Here’s a great catch up article.

So make sure you have a copy held for you!

That’s it and we hope to see you this week at the shop!
