It’s fair to say that the All New Marvel NOW titles have been a hit, developing a sub culture and following within the shop! This week we’ve got three more #1’s to try out! First up is Captain Marvel #1! Hero! Pilot! Avenger! Captain Marvel, Earth’s Mightiest Hero with death-defying powers and an attitude to match, is back and launching headfirst into an all-new ongoing series! As Captain Marvel, a.k.a. Carol Danvers, comes to a crossroads with a new life and new romance, she makes a dramatic decision that will alter the course of her life and the entire Marvel Universe in the months to come. It’s time to go HIGHER, FURTHER, FASTER and more in the most super-powered comic around! Adding to Marvel new lexicon of powerful female characters is Kelly Sue DeConnick’s Captain Marvel. It was fun watching her develop as a writer over the last few years, and we’re very excited for her relaunch of this book. (She’s Matt Fraction’s wife too!) It’s also a good week all around for our illustrious female customers as Black Widow #4 will be...

Here’s a selection of cool stuff coming out this Wednesday, March 5th 2014! Since we’re in the spirit of small press comics this week after being at the ComicsPro meeting, we’re actually going to lead with our Independent picks of the week. (And they’re not even all Image this time!) Want an inside look into the meeting? Check out this speech from Image Publisher Eric Stephenson. He praised the direct market while also insulting every other publisher in the room. We love Image Comics but we also love Superheroes too. (and My Little Pony for that matter) – ‘Good Comics And Bad Comics’ Are All That Matter First up from Boom Studios is Evil Empire #1 from Say Anything front man Max Bemis! You can feel safe hopping on this new 16 issue maxi series right from the beginning, I’ve read it and it’s great. How many times in science fiction are you just dropped into a dystopian future storyline? (think Blade Runner, or even Star Wars for that matter) Evil Empire will show you how we would get to that future starting now! See an...

The inmates are running the asylum I guess you could say! We are going to take this opportunity to create a little sale just for you guys who come out to brave the snow this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. First and most exciting: Every Tee Shirt will be 50% Off! John said “sell a bunch” so we’re gong to sell  a bunch! Did we say Jim and John are gone?!?! You knew it was bound to happen sooner or later! A site Updatel featuring our shop’s love of Matt Fraction and David Aja’s Hawkeye! This week’s we’ve got a new issue of Hawkeye along with a cool new Marvel Select Action figure. (like, really, really cool) • The brothers Barton double down against the bad guys as the Clown lays siege to their building. Can Hawkguy keep everyone safe against a killer nobody’s even seen yet? • What happens when you’re locked up with your loser big brother for like a week straight? • You go nuts, right? Clint goes a little nuts. And here’s the aforementioned awesome action figure. Only $24.99 and it’s even got Ultron in the base. (The villain from the upcoming Avengers 2 movie!) Hawkeye is the book that the staff universally loves, it’s the kind of book that makes you want to read more comic books and is a great example of what the medium is capable of. (And it’s only $2.99 an issue.) Here’s a great little CBR article: FRACTION GOES COAST TO COAST...

This week we’ve got no real unifying theme for new releases, so we’re just going to give you some cool images and talk about some books that we’re excited about. Here’s some featured new releases for 2-19-2014! To go with the weather we’re having this week I thought we’d serve up this cover of Amazing X-Men #4! Wolverine and Northstar are defeated and stranded in… Purgatory? Nightcrawler tries to rally the X-Men to help them and save the after-life from Azazel, but they are outgunned by the demon lord and his hordes! This fun addition to the X-Titles is written by Jason Aaron (of the just finished up Wolverine and the X-men and countless other amazing stories) and drawn by Ed McGuinness. (Superman Batman, Hulk) That means lots of cool moments with an artist that can back them up. Next let’s go with Avengers World #3, and a Shang-Chi solo story! Shang-Chi vs. The Gorgon– a fight to the death for control of The Hand. 20 straight pages of bone-crushing martial arts action, like you’ve never seen it before. The...
