Here’s some final information on this year’s Holiday Art Show, benefiting the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, as well as details on our sale and Holiday Party! First up, we’ve got a new Holiday Print this year from Jameson! In the spirit of our art show theme (Superheroes in Cleveland), we’ve reimagined the first Marvel / DC Crossover from 1976, this time set on top of the Terminal Tower downtown! These prints are 11×17 on cardstock paper and are free with any purchase starting today! Supplies are limited, but we hope to have enough to make it to the Holiday Party (and hopefully up until Christmas.) The art show starts this Wednesday and lasts until Saturday. We’ve got some great covers in so be sure to stop by and check them out. It’s a basket raffle system where one dollar gets you one ticket towards the cover of your choice. I’ll do a brief reminder about what’s happening this week! Hope your back issue wish lists are updated because the 50% off back issues starts now! All back issues, including the wall, are 50% off Wednesday the 17th through Wednesday the 24th! That’s one full week of back issue bargains! The Holiday Art Show is up too! From the 17th through the Holiday Party on Saturday the 20th, you can stop in to view all the submissions that we’ll be raffling off at 10:30pm during the party. Raffle tickets can be purchased one for $1, or six for $5, and every single dollar raised goes directly to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank! They can turn $1 into three full meals, so each and every dollar donated makes an impact on hunger in our community. Here’s all the info on this year’s Holiday Party / Art Show / Sale / and Fund Raiser for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank! This year’s art show theme is “Superheroes in Cleveland!” We’ve been hosting our Holiday Art Show since 2012, and we consider it to be one of the most important things we do every year, a great way to unite the community that has built up around the shop for the greater good. Since its inception, we’ve assisted the Greater Cleveland Food Bank in creating over 185,000 meals for those in need during the holidays and beyond. (That’s a real number, too.) The Food Bank has the amazing ability to turn one dollar into three full meals, so every dollar you put into the system in the art show has a very direct result you can measure. Our art show is where local artists create custom comic book covers that we display in the foyer attached to our shop from Wednesday, December 17th to Saturday, December 20th. Since 2013 we’ve hosted a Holiday Art Show to benefit the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, where local artists create custom comic book covers that are won in a basket raffle system where one dollar gets you one ticket to the cover of your choice. We’re excited to announce that this year’s theme is “Super Heroes in Cleveland!” Here’s how you participate! Please stop by the shop and pick up a blank comic cover from us. They are free of charge, and you can do two if you like. Please complete the cover with any medium you choose. (This includes digital. Many people now print their art out on cardstock and glue it to the book’s cover.) Give us your interpretation of the theme, any representation of superheroes (and heroines of course) in Cleveland. This can have a holiday component, or not, that’s all up to you as the artist. The artwork must be turned in by Sunday, December 14th at 5pm. Hello Comic Shop Friends! Here are the details for what’s happening in the shop in December, and some new comics you should pick up to read as you stay warm and cozy at home! Submissions are coming in! I’m working on two of my three ideas and hopefully can get them done this weekend, since covers are due back by 5pm on Sunday the 14th! There’s still time to do one, so stop in and pick up a blank cover. This year’s theme is “Superheroes in Cleveland” and you can interpret that however you like. We will have the art displayed starting Wednesday the 17th through Saturday the 20th, when we’ll pick the basket raffle winners! Every single dollar raised goes directly to the Cleveland Food Bank! It’s December Comic Shop Friends! That means it’s time for our yearly reminder that we would love it if you could come in and clear out your files before the end of the year. We will gladly print out your pull list if you need to make any changes to your file. We’ve had a lot of new files opened this year with the DC Absolute titles taking off, so file space is at a premium for us! We joke about having “SPO shoulder” from the five or six boxes on the side counter every week, and the cubby cubes are packed, so please make a good faith effort to pick up what is in your file this month! We love to sell you comics, but we’d really love you to take them home and read them! That said, anytime you need more time to pick up your comics, just let us know. We will happily hold them longer, as long as we know you’ll be back in to get them. Things happen, we understand, but we just need communication...
