Jack Kirby’s Birthday

Jack Kirby’s Birthday

Here’s the news for the week of August 26th 2015! JACK KIRBY We’ll have our regular batch of new releases on Wednesday August 26th (and there’s some really great stuff coming out too!) but more importantly this weekend we’ll be celebrating the 98th birthday of Jack Kirby, in conjunction with Jack’s granddaughter Jillian Kirby and the Kirby 4 Heroes Initiative! HERO INITIATIVE  Every year since 2012 Jillian has worked with an ever expanding network of comic shops to raise awareness about her grandfather and to collect donations for the Hero Initiative, a non profit dedicated to helping veteran comic book creators in need of financial assistance. Funds collected across the country will be given to Jillian so she can make one giant donation in honor of her grandfather.

Here’s the featured new releases coming out Wednesday, August 19th 2015! First up is House of M #1 by Dennis Hopeless and Marco Failla. Marvel’s still got a few more Secret Wars series to go, including this throwback to the classic series when the Scarlet Witch spoke the classic line “No More Mutants.” The House of Magnus controls all, having crushed all resistance to their reign. Magneto rules with an iron-fist, while his children and grandchildren live their lives as royals-with all the privileges and pit-falls that come with that title. But is Magneto’s control as all-encompassing as it seems? And what happens to a conqueror when there is no one left to conquer? Here’s a fun one shot, Secret Wars Secret Love #1. Short stories featuring heroes in love across Battleworld. I’ve flipped through it and it’s pretty cool stuff. The team up you’ve been waiting for (sort of) in Guardians Team-Up #10. Deadpool and Rocket Raccoon and a very ET inspired cover. It’s a good week for action figure fans, with DC Direct releasing their new artist series...

New Comic Releases for the week of 7-29-2015

New Comic Releases for the week of 7-29-2015

Here’s the featured new releases for the week of Wednesday, July 29th, 2015. SECRET WARS Two of the best selling Secret Wars titles come outl this week, starting with Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars #3. Part three of this four issue mini series takes Deadpool back to the original Secret Wars where he was apparently their the whole time. Looks like he’s hijacking Spidey’s new costume from Secret Wars #8 and Amazing Spider-Man #252. Next is Thors #2, by Jason Aaron and Chris Sprouse. In Battleworld, the Thors act as Doom’s police force, and this is their team book. More of a mythological Hill Street Blues. (does anyone even get that reference anymore?) Other Secret Wars titles this week include 1602 Witch Hunter Angela #2 Age of Ultron Vs Marvel Zombies #2, MODOK Assassin #3 X-Men ’92 #2. DC COMICS Once a year, quite a few of DC’s titles have giant sized ‘annual’ specials. These books may tie into regular continuity or be stand alone stories, but they are a good chance to try out a title you’ve been thinking about...
