Andrea’s Bizarro Picks for 01.10.2024

Hi Comic Shop Friends! It’s another small-ish week, so we’re having a quiet start to the year at the shop, which is a nice break after a busy December. A couple of things coming up: Late Nite Comics is back! Thursday, January 18th from 8pm to midnight we’ll be pulling out dollar boxes, and those books will only be 50 cents each! Grab some deals and fill up your collection! You can’t beat 50 cent books!e We have a temporary setup until the new back issue bins are built, but dollar books are out in their new home! There are still a few action figures left, but that’s it, since we won’t be carrying action figures anymore. We will still carry statues, and Ben just did a reorder on those to fill the case back up! Ben is also co-hosting with Lenora at the Midnight Rental Secret Screening at the Grog Shop on Wednesday January 10th! Doors at 7 for an hour of vintage trailers and commercials, then the secret film starts at 8pm. Lenora finally got me with one...

Andrea’s New Year New Picks for 01.03.2024

Happy New Year Comic Shop Friends! I hope everyone’s New Year resolution is to read more comics! We’re always happy to give you recommendations, and if you see that “100% unanimous staff pick” card on a book, you know it’s a winner. Hey, we have issues #1-4 of one of my favorite series in now! Some of my favorites from 2023: Tom King’s Wonder Woman, Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers, Phillip Kennedy Johnson’s Incredible Hulk, Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees, Nights (Winner of the most boring title for the most interesting, weird story with well-written characters.), Poison Ivy, the western horror Canary, Canadian horror Dwellings, Guardians of the Galaxy, original slasher Harrower, video nasty inspired The Nasty, Klik Klik Boom (the trade paperback is out this week!), The Sacrificers, and Somna. The book I’m most looking forward to in 2024 is The Goon! One of my all-time favorite comics is returning for its 25th Anniversary in March! (Don’t worry, you’ll hear more about it when it’s out.) Watch this space for new dollar stock racks! Our Holiday sale has been...

Andrea’s Year-End Picks for 12.27.2023

Welcome Comic Shop Friends to the last email of the year! It’s a tiny baby email, because there’s not much this week that is brand new, and we’ve been trucking through all our Monday and Tuesday tasks in one day, so that we’re ready for you on Wednesday! First, some shop news: If you didn’t know… Stop in with your Christmas gift certificates and pick up something fun! And a reminder from us, and Cap, to pick up your file! There are many reasons this helps us out, so please pick up whatever is in your file before the end of the year. We hate to have to close files and put books back out, and we always encourage you to call or email the shop if you’re having any issues, so we can work with you. You probably have some great books to read, so grab them! As we freshen up our back issue boxes we’ll have some used long boxes to give away. See if we have any out when you stop in! MARVEL COMICS The Gang War...

Andrea’s Pre-Christmas Picks for 12.20.2023

Merry Christmas, Comic Shop Friends! We had a great time at our Holiday party, thanks to all of you who made it out! And a huge thank you to everyone who donated to the raffle! Our total was $6296, which creates 18,888 meals! Another huge thanks to everyone who submitted a cover, we couldn’t do it without your help! We had a record number of covers to raffle off, 156, so keep that in mind for next year so we can top that, and beat this year’s donation amount for the Cleveland Food Bank. This is also a good time to remind you that the Cleveland Food Bank needs donations all year long, so if you are in a position to do so, send some money their way throughout the year. Some photos from the night: John Shearer is bummed he didn’t win the Short Box King cover I did, but John’s daughter won it, so there may be some deals in play to get it into the hands of SBK. Especially since John Shearer won the original painting of...

Holiday Party / Art Show / Fundraiser / Sale at CNJComics

Here’s all the information on this year’s Holiday Party / Sale / Art Show / Fundraiser for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank! This year’s art show theme is … Marvel Vs DC! Let’s talk about the art show first! We’ve been holding our Holiday Art Show since 2012, even moving it successfully online during the pandemic. It’s always better in person though, and we’re grateful that we’re able to host it that way again. Last year we combined things things we learned during the pandemic with our old in-person model and had our most successful year ever. With your help, we assisted the Greater Cleveland Food Bank (the true heroes in this story) in creating 24,900 meals. This brings our lifetime total to 140,608 meals created. We measure the success of our event through meals created, with the knowledge that the Food Bank can turn one dollar into four full meals for those in need. (However, because of the current state of the economy, that one dollar now makes three full meals, so our help is needed now more than...

Andrea’s Invasive Picks for 12.13.23

Happy Holiday Party week, Comic Shop Friends! John’s getting Christmas all over the store as I write this week’s email, and we’re getting things ready for everything coming up! Starting Wednesday the 13th through our Holiday Party on Saturday the 16th, the Art Show submissions will be on display in the foyer, and you can start to purchase raffle tickets on Wednesday. We’ll draw the winners at 10:30pm during the Holiday Party. Tickets are 1 for $1, or 6 for $5, and all proceeds go to the Cleveland Food Bank! There are so many great covers this year (I’ve already got my eye on a few), and once again we’ve run out of room on the display walls, so there will be a binder with even more art! We will also be raffling off this painting of the Superman House done by Jeff Suntala. After the raffle for the covers is finished, we’ll throw all the tickets together and pull a winner from those that are present. Thank you to Jeff for donating this! We also have a couple of...
