Featured New Releases for 1-23-2019

It’s been a while since we’ve had a full on new release email, what with events during the holidays and wrapping up year-end stuff. So hey! Here’s the featured new releases coming out this Wednesday, January 23rd, 2019. NEW RELEASES The big book of the week is Donny Cates’ new Guardians of the Galaxy #1! With a huge cast of Marvel Cosmic Characters to help fill the lineup! If you can’t get enough of Cates, we’ve got a graphic novel of Cosmic Ghost Rider this week. If you’ve never read it, Cosmic Ghost Rider is Frank Castle (The Punisher) who became Ghost Rider who became a herald of Galactus who became Thanos’ lackey. It’s great stuff. BOOM Studios has taken over the beloved Buffy the Vampire Slayer license, and under the guidance of Joss Whedon, will be reimagined in the modern day and back in High School. The core motifs of Buffy are both timeless and very 90’s at the same time, so it’ll be interesting to see this play out. Bendis’ new ‘WONDER’ imprint from DC had a really...

CNJComics Crew Guest Bartending at Working Class Brewery 1-25-2018

Every January when things slow down a bit we try to put on one cool event to help make the winter in Cleveland more tolerable.  This time we’ve paired up with Working Class Brewery, located right next to the shop, for a night of FREE comics, good company and craft beer! On Friday January 25th from 5 pm to 9 pm, the entire CNJ’s crew will be guest bartenders at Working Class Brewery! Yes everyone, Ben, Josh, Jason, both John’s, Kevin and even Jim. (Not pictured because he’s aloof.) Starting at 5:30 we’ll be handing out three free Marvel True Believers comics, great reprints of classic Marvel material.  Every half hour after that we’ll give away three different books, so if you last the whole stretch that’s 24 books.  So books at 5:30, 6:00, 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30 and 9:00. What’s more, all of these comics have been hand-picked by the staff, and we’ll also have that staff member give a quick story about the significance of the book, both to them and in general.  We were going to...

The Final Week of the Year at CNJComics

The Final Week of the Year at CNJComics

We’d like to thank everyone for a really fun Holiday Party and for all the support for the food drive.  With your help, we’ll be assisting the Cleveland Food Bank in creating 12,084 meals this year! We’ve also been informed by the Fitch Family, who take logistical responsibility for the actual food, that the food count was an amazing 1,879! To put that into perspective, our previous high was 1,207. Thank you to the artists for all their hard work! We would like to congratulate Kelsey Cretcher as the artist who collected the most tickets for her artwork. Her ‘mod’ style Fantastic Four cover really hit the mark with a lot of people, and I have donated an extra hundred dollars to the food drive fund in her name. Congrats Kelsey! We look forward to seeing more of your work around the shop. I’m actually going to give a little shout out to my seven-year-old daughter Zoe, who showed up to the art show with a picture of Stan Lee that she drew. She looked at a picture of a...

Artists Wanted – 2018

Carol and John’s Comic Book Shop is looking for artists who would like to contribute a cover to our 6th Annual Holiday Art Show to benefit the Cleveland Food Bank. It’s easy! Are you a local artist who would like to turn his talents into food for those in need during the holiday season? Stop by the shop and pick up a free blank cover (or two). Some are completely blank and some have a logo to help you get started. After the loss of the patriarch of our industry, we have decided to make this year’s theme ‘Stan Lee’. You can take this into whatever direction you would like, be it a picture of Stan, or a piece inspired by one of his creations. Art by Jeff Ritchie Create a custom cover, sticking to the front only for display purposes. (we do not have frames that accommodate an open book. If you’d like to do that and frame it yourself we’d be happy to hang it!) Turn the book in by Thursday December 20th at 8 pm at the...
